The chance to play 9 vs 9 football and then be part of the guard of honour for Tuesday’s Newcastle United vs Sydney FC match at Forsyth Barr Stadium has a dozen Maori Hill JFC players fizzing.

Maori Hill was selected to play in the 12th grade curtain raiser having been the leading club for Club Zone ticket purchases for the game. It will be represented on the pitch by players selected in equal number from its 12th Red all-boys and 12th Silver all-girls winter league teams.

The players, seen here with coaches Greg Barnes and Alison Heather, completed their training for their big game with a 90 minute session at the Edgar Centre on Sunday. Captained by Anna Young, they will play a 30 minute game against Grants Braes on the Tuesday and then form part of the honour guard as Newcastle United and Sydney FC take to the pitch for their clash.

The Maori Hill team comprises: Braedyn Arbuckle; Jacob Barnes; Jonathan Brook; Tessa Campbell; Regan Death; Olivia Gain; Charlie Gray; Niwa Kapa-Brooking; Caleb Le Cong; Hannah Matehaere; Georgia Ward; Anna Young.
