AFL East Gippsland McDonald's Junior Academy set to launch in 2015

AFL East Gippsland is thrilled to announce the launch of the inaugural AFL East Gippsland McDonalds Junior Academy, which will commence in February 2015.

AFL East Gippsland will be inviting up to 40 of the most promising footballers across the region in each age group from Under 12’s to Under 14’s, with clubs across Bairnsdale and District Junior Football Association, Football Netball East Gippsland and Omeo District Football Netball League asked to nominate players they think will benefit from this advanced training.

AFL East Gippsland will soon announce a leading coach who will assist in overseeing the McDonalds junior Academy. Each age group will also have a head coach, along with several assistants, selected from within all leagues involved. At least 4 coaches will be working with each group of boys.

In announcing the details of the academy, AFL East Gippsland Football Development Manager Adrian Bromage mentioned that the purpose behind its launch was to help lift the standard of junior footballers in the East Gippsland region.

“The main aim of the program will be to work on the continued development of the players skills in all areas of the game as well as developing leadership behaviours for those involved” Bromage Said.

“It is hoped and expected that the AFL East Gippsland McDonalds Academy will “fast track” the development of our leading kids, and ultimately see more kids from within our region progress into the Gippsland power program.”

The McDonalds junior academy players will receive a presentation from a leading player and Development Coach from the Richmond Football Club when RFC are in the region for their community camp on February 10th and 11th 2015.

There will be the opportunity for a few of the region’s most promising junior female footballers to further develop their football skills as well.

All clubs in AFL East Gippsland’s affiliated leagues have been involved in the nomination process, with invites sent out to players due to be returned by the end of December.
