FOOTBALL – Under 17’S
Today we play our old rivals in Nth Bendigo. The under 17’s had a hard day at the office last Saturday with the games against LBU one all for the year. They got off to a bad start and let Locky get a three goal lead at the first break and six goal lead at the main break. The boys came out firing in the third and kicked three unanswered goals but it was short lived as Locky then took control of the game. Huntly managed to win the last quarter but it was too late.
Best players were: Ash,Jack,Homer,Quinny,Taigy and Jaydon.
NETBALL
MELANIE BIGGS - 150 GAMES
Mel commenced playing netball for Huntly in 1998 in our A Grade team. In 2001 Mel won the Huntly Best & Fairest for A Grade and took on the coaching role for B Grade. In 2003 and 2006 Mel played in A Grade finals while coaching B Grade and C Grade. In between times Mel has taken a few years off for family reasons and has returned to Huntly in 2009. .
Mel has not only been a wonderful netballer and very speedy midcourt player, but she is also a great asset to the Huntly Football Netball Club. Whether it be scoring or making the fantastic banners for the Club or helping out assisting our younger netball teams, Mel is always there to lend a hand.
The Huntly Football Netball Club wish her well today for her 150th game at Huntly and hopefully a Grand Final berth for the A Reserve team and we hope there are many more years to come.
Netball Notes:
It was a big week end for the Huntly netball teams with all teams involved on both semi finals. It all began on the Saturday at Toolleen with the C grade girls vying for a spot into the grand final. they were well and truly pumped and took to the court knowing they had to stay focused from the start. The first quarter was played at blitzing pace and the team displayed some fantastic netball going into the first break with a handy lead. This set the scene for the remainder of the match and the young hawks earned that spot for the big one Congratulation girls!
Sunday we travelled to Heathcote to continue our campaign the D grade girls were first up and the game was even for the entire match with neither team able to break away it was only in the last few second of the match that a turnover resulted in a goal to north and the girls unfortunately went down by 1 goal. Well done girls on a good season.
Next were the B grade girls and they were pumped and ready to play. The first quarter the team got an early break but in true netball form the Locky girls fought back, the game seesawed for the remainder of the 3 quarters with neither team giving an inch but it was the hawks who managed to pull away in the last quarter to keep their finals hope alive. Fantastic effort girls
A Reserve was up next on the court and they also kept their final campaign alive. All girls played well for the 4 quarters with lots of talk and team work from all over the court, they went on to record a very solid win over Colbinabbin.
A grade was the last of our teams to take to the court and they knew this game would be close and it was just that. From start to finish all girls never gave in but unfortunately at the final whistle we saw our campaign end. Well done girls on a great season.
Today its the prelim and we have the B and A res teams vying for that one spot left on the big day so lets all get all get behind the girls and show them our support!
