A Grade
Euroa vs Seymour by Sarah Ternes
An injury depleted A Grade side took to the court against Seymour knowing they were in for a tough game but willing to give it their all. On the back of a full game in B Grade, Marnie Burton started in WA and was able to provide some great feeds into shooters Zara Hinss and Kelsey Moylan. Aiming for their first quarter target of 10 goals, the girls only fell one short!
The first half defensive end of Jenna Richardson and Katie Miller were up against very tall opposition but were able to force quite a few errors from the Seymour goalers. Seymour had established a convincing 30-goal lead by half time. A few changes in the second half saw normal GS, Kelsey Moylan, move to GK and club legend Kelly Hill step into the unfamiliar role of goal shooter. Kelly and Zara Hinss were able to work with WA, Emma Burke, and centre, Eliza Hoare to set up a number of plays with Zara putting up all of Euroa’s goals for the third quarter.
The last quarter saw Kelly finally sink her first goal and pull a few interesting moves out of her bag of tricks! Overall, it was a pleasing game from the Euroa girls who kept their heads up and worked together against very challenging opposition. The final score Euroa 28 defeated by Seymour 84.
The incredible work rate and persistence of Eliza Hoare once again earned her the best on court position; with Zara Hinss and Jenna Richardson also have good games!
B Reserve by Sonia Makar
Another well fought game was played out by all B Res ladies today against Seymour.
Ash Wilde from the B grade side stepped into GA and GS replacing Maddi Murray who is currently out due to injury.
Ash Wilde and Kelsey Thomson have a history in goals together and this showed on the court teaming well in the goal ring. Amy Wilde played a strong game in WA, determinedly driving onto the ring and feeding well to the goalers. Mahony Fothergill in C played another great game. Emily McMahon GD, Ada Chessor GK and Mimi Hamilton WD all played strong defensive games with Emily and Mimi backing up our attackers down the court.
At half time Euroa were only down by 3 goals. Mary Frewen came on into GK in the 3rd settling into the game well with some strong rebounds, while Kelsey went to GA and Ash into GS.
In the 4th quarter Emily moved into GK and Ada GD, and although we lost by 11 the ladies did not give up and remained strong against a hard and physical team.
We say goodbye to Megan Coburn as she will not be returning to the court this year due to an injury. Megan has been a great asset to the team and we will miss her on the court, although she will be supporting the team from the sidelines.
We lose Megan but we welcome back Claire Sheridan next week after a 5 week hiatus.
Euroa 33 Defeated by Seymour 44
Awards: Ash Wilde, Amy Wilde and Emily McMahon.
U17
Euroa Vs Seymour by Katy Frewen
Euroa’s first quarter of netball was a close affair with Heidi and Katy working well in defence. Elisha Kubeil’s presence was obvious from the start of the game and it was great to have her back on the court after a nasty injury over a month ago. Elisha was hard and persistent at the ball and was a great asset in the centre for the team. Matilda was shooting accurately and combining well with Liza.
The second quarter started with some great play from Hollie and as per usual Ellie was hard at the ball and putting in one hundred percent for the whole game.
The game continued to be a close contest for the second half with Caitlin working hard to get over the line and feeding beautifully into the ring.
Thanks again to our under 15 girls Molly Redfern and Sienna Trotter for filling in once again for us. Unfortunately the final score saw the U17 girls go down to the strong Seymour team 31 to 61.
Best players Katy Frewen, Elisha Kubiel and Heidi Fullager
U 15 Netball 27-7-19
EUROA v Seymour by Sally Redfern.
There was a fair bit of hype surrounding the U15 game of netball on Saturday between Euroa and Seymour, evident in the vocal Euroa supporters who braved an early morning start to come and barrack for the young Magpies.
Euroa were desperate to break into the top 6, and a win would have assured that. Seymour, sitting inside the top 6, were keen to repeat their performance of the first round when they defeated Euroa by 9 goals.
The first quarter was fast and furious, and it was only in the dying minutes that the Lions took control and established a 7 goal lead. Ashleigh Fraser played a brilliant game at Goal Keeper, pitting her defending abilities against the tallest shooter in the U15 competition. Supported by Sienna Trotter at Goal Defence, and Millie Watson and then Alisha Garret at wing defence, the Magpie defenders tried hard all day against quality opposition.
By half time, the Lions appeared to be in control of the game, playing a smooth, faultless brand of netball that was difficult to counteract. With a lead of 8 goals, and not making many mistakes at all, it looked like Seymour were headed for a comfortable win.
But the Magpies played a magnificent third quarter that brought them right back into the game.
Hannah Kubeil, and then Ella Davidson, at Centre were vital links between defence and attack, finding and leading into space on a chaotic and congested court. Both girls ran hard, and were very good at following Coach Stasia Trotter’s directives.
At three quarter time, the difference was back to 3 goals. The Euroa crowd became more supportive, encouraging the Magpies onto greater feats, sensing an upset in the air
Maddi Hearmon at Wing Attack relied on her speed and agility to get control of the ball, and then used it cleverly to pass into the Euroa goalers. Maddi’s height was also a valuable asset as she defended down the court.
Euroa’s goaling dynamic duo of Moly Redfern and Teagan Kubeil were on fire on Saturday, making the most of every hard-fought opportunity. Their lightning quick passes in the ring, and determined rebounding attempts beautifully complimented their very accurate goaling.
At the final siren, it was the Lions by 5 goals. But spectators from both sides left the court commenting about what an excellent game of U15 netball they had just witnessed.
