On Thursday 9th March members of the Albury Junior Football Committee met to discuss the present situation of trying to field 2 under 14 teams for this coming season.
It was decided that based on numbers registered and paid at close of business on 9th March 2017 (31) and even with people who had voiced an intention to register (3) it looked like an uphill battle to field two barely competitive and full sided under 14 teams this year.
We therefore are in agreeance to now run with one team. As there will now be an excess of players we have further decided to look at the possibility of having some players (if deemed capable by coaches and with the consultation and support of parents) playing up with Under 16’s and the balance potentially assisting Scots School with their numbers. This would work on a roster system with every player being asked to rotate during the season with an expectation of this being not more than twice for the season per player (in a total of 14 games excluding finals). These players will also be accompanied by a representative from our club to encourage these players
I have already notified Noeline Elvin (League operations manager AFL North East Border) so that the draw can be amended and have also called Garry Zauner (Scots School President) to let him know the potential of being able to assist them with numbers. If our team is fortunate enough to make finals it was decided that the strongest team will go forward with players not selected being encourage to be a part of the campaign.
We will keep you all informed as we progress towards the beginning of the season and would like to reassure you that we the committee have our players and club’s best interest always at heart.
Go Tigers!
