2017: Year of the Shark!

On the back of our “Dream. Believe. Achieve.” slogan for 2017 – Sharks have done just that, capping off an incredible 12 months, with a record number 35 teams entered in the Townsville Junior competition; and wins in no less than 5 divisions on offer.

Earlier this year, Sharks took 14 Mixed and 16 Mixed teams to New Zealand, and went through the North Island Tri-Series undefeated.

In the Townsville Castle Hill Touch competition, Sharks completed a rare 3-sweep, claiming the Men’s 1, Men’s 2 and Men’s 3 division premierships; as well as runners-up in Women’s 2 and Women’s 6.

In the middle of this senior season, the club also took out the 14 Mixed title; as well as the Men’s Open division of the NQ Regional Championships – the first club side ever to do so!! Our 13 Boys were also crowned NQ Regional Junior champions; while our 9 Girls, 11 Boys and 16 Girls were regional runners-up.

Suffice to say, Friday night’s junior Grand Finals were a sterling finish to an eventful 12 months. Earlier in the evening Sharks claimed the “champions” tag in the 11 Boys age division, and were runners-up in both the 9 Girls and 13 Boys competitions; before victories in the 15 Boys, 15 Girls, 16 Boys, and 16 Girls competitions brought it all home for our powerhouse club.

Our referees did not go unnoticed either, with 6 referees appointed to Grand Final positions last week. Adding to this we had countless players & coaches selected for representative duties at both NQ and Qld level throughout the year.

Yes – 2017 will certainly go down as a year to remember, and with the bar set so high it’ll be a tough gig to live up to in 2018, but the club is ready to rise to the challenge!!

We look forward to having you along for the journey!
