 2018 Season Information

Overview of Gold Coast Basketball Junior Basketball League (GCJBL)

Thank you to all our new and past volunteers and players who helped get us through the 2017 season when at one point it looked like our Club would fold.

It has been a steep learning curve for us all and we much appreciate the patience of our player parents.

As the oldest junior club on the Gold Coast we would not have survived without the hard work and support of Jennelle and Joel from Gold Coast Basketball and delegates from all other Gold Coast Clubs.

Last season we trained Tuesday afternoon/evening at the Doyle Centre, Marymount College (thank you Tracey and Dean for making this possible) fielding 4 teams making 2 finals, and a further 2 finals in Summer Comp.

We were excited to welcome Coach Mark and his new U13 Summer Comp team and look forward to seeing their progress in Winter Comp.

A big thank you to Kath for organizing the Winter Comp medals and trophies (event still to come for the older age groups).

We would also like to acknowledge the fabulous work of U15 Manager May, Coaches Fred, Trent, Simi and also past coaches Craig and Tim for helping kick off the season.

Highlight of the year was three of our U15 boys stepping up to play in the U20 final and helping them win Gold in Summer Comp.

Five of our U20 players (Trent, Izaac, Nick, Jalen and Simi) were also selected for Gold Coast Rep Teams and a number of our past and current players represented at State and National School comps.

Below is the general information from Gold Coast Basketball and at the bottom is Blades specific information for the 2018 season.

2018 Season Information

The Gold Coast Junior Basketball league is the Premier Gold Coast Junior Basketball Competition.

The League consists of nine clubs, TSS Suns (Southport), Celtics (Carrara), Heat (Reedy Creek), Blades (Burleigh), PBC Magpies (Palm Beach), Varsity Vipers (Varsity Lakes), Somerset Spartans (Mudgeeraba) Tweed Slammers (Southern Gold Coast/Northern NSW) and Panthers (Northern GC).

Competitions are run for both boys and girls in the U9,11,13,15,17 and 20 age groups.

The purpose of the GCJBL is to provide a competition pathway for junior basketball players on the Gold Coast.

The 2018 Gold Coast Junior Basketball League runs from February 28th through to Friday 7 Sep (Winter season) and from the 6th October through to the 9th of December (Summer League).  Currently Registration is only open for the Winter Season (fees will cover the Pre-Season and Winter Season).

Blades Basketball will begin taking registrations now with trials taking place in February.  There will be limited teams/spots available due to the COMMONWEALTH GAMES so I would suggest you register early or you will miss a spot.

Please note, we are not currently offering all age groups but would welcome more volunteer coaches to be able to offer them for your child.

Age Groups:

Under 9's Mixed (Born 2010 and later) - Play Saturday mornings

Under 11 Boys and Girls (Born 2008-2009) - Play Saturday mornings

Under 13 Boys and Girls (Born 2006-2007) - Play Friday nights

Under 15 Boys and Girls (Born 2004-2005) - Play Friday nights

OPEN GIRLS Championship (Best Players, not age specific) – Play Thursdays at Somerset.

Venues:

The GCJBL will be predominantly played at both Carrara Indoor sports Complex Tallebudgera Recreation Centre on Friday nights, Somerset on Wednesdays and Thursdays, then at Carrara Indoor Sports Complex on Saturday mornings. However, during the period of AND for several weeks after the COMMONWEALTH GAMES there is a shortage of courts.  Hence there will be no special requests for game times/locations granted.  The season has been reduced to 4 grading rounds and 13 rounds, plus semis and finals.  We have lost a total of 2 grading and 3 club games compared to last year. Players will not be allowed to play up so it is recommended that all teams have at least 8 players on their books.

Fees:

Gold Coast Basketball/Basketball Queensland registration for 2018 is $110.00 for players in age groups U11-U20's (plus club fees see below).

Registration for players under 10 is $60.00 (plus club fees see below).

To participate in the GCJBL all players must be registered & paid with Gold Coast Basketball and pay separate club fees listed below.

2018/2019 Representative Season:

To represent Gold Coast Basketball in the 2018/2019 BQJBC season; all players must participate in 50% of the 2018 Winter Season, with the exception of players who are participating in the Under 12 and Under 14 age group competitions in the 2017/2018 season. It is optional for these players to participate in the 2018 GCJBL season due to the COMMONWEALTH GAMES court, team and player shortages.
