Today in the greater Brisbane and South East Queensland region there are quite a number of Associations which host on average 7-10 junior basketball clubs each from their local area.
In the inner Brisbane area the major Association is Brisbane Basketball Incorporated (BBI) at Dixon St, Auchenflower.
Like most Queensland associations BBI caters to a range of junior age levels, from early age entry development programs, Junior and Senior comps, to Representative teams that play in Basketball Queensland (BQ) Regional and State competitions. BQ is the state overarching organisation under Basketball Australia (BA). See also this BQ blog, The Benefits of Basketball.
For new and returning junior players, the start of each year is sign up time for the coming year's seasons. Clubs usually hold sign days and some invite you to sign up on line. Players can contact clubs at any other time during the year to find a team as well. Inner Brisbane Clubs enter their teams in the seasonal competitions that BBI run.
The usual BBI competitions start in February with grading games over most of term one. BBI runs the main Championship season over Terms 2 and 3 with playoffs and Grand Finals in the last weeks of Term 3.

Also in the later half of Term 3, BBI begins the trialling process for elegible club level players to form those teams that will represent Brisbane Capitals (the BBI name for their rep program). Capitals teams compete under the BQ organisation within their respective age groups and levels against teams from other Associations throughout South East Qld. Rep team Competition rounds (the BQJBC) commence with the start of Term 4, break over the 6 week school holiday and Christmas period, then resume in Term 1 of the next year where teams play further rounds that culminate in playoffs and Grand Finals before Easter break.
The next level of competition is the Queensland wide competitons run by BQ where associations can enter their Rep teams in State Championships.
For young players in Queensland who are playing at club level and show promise along with committment to training and development, aspirations to play at state level can be achieved when selected to be part of a rep team.
For young players who have found club level competition more enjoyable the Brisbane Basketball club environment provides great weekly exercise at practices and games, great life time friendships and a good place for children to learn how to be part of a team while gathering sport and character building skills.
