Lang Park women take Brisbane GBL season by storm (Part 2)

The Lang Park GBL women also turned the season on its head, coming from nowhere to storm into finals as the top placed team and complete a comfortable victory in the Grand Final. With the youngest team in the competition including key players of the future Audrey Fuller and Grace Ellis, the Lang Park girls refused to take a backward step. Stellar performances by Lang Park products Mikeala King and Alba Cooke in the final series proved the difference, with the steadying force of Akilah Bethel too much for our opposition to handle in high scoring contests.

Again in 2018 we lost a number of players to higher duties – four to US colleges and one (Adelaide Fuller) to the Australian Centre of Excellence. This, and the excellent on-court results, are a great credit to the years of expert junior coaching the girls receive at Lang Park, and to the dedication of our players. This year we were sponsored by The Lord Alfred Hotel, where many a coaching plan was hatched!

GBL Gold Champions 2018 Lang Park (L-R) Caoch Bill Ellis, Mikeala King, Akilah Bethel, Karissa Grigg, Gemma Bennett, Lauren McConnell, Belinda Stubbs, Emma Such (injured), Di Wood (Manager), front row Audrey Fuller, Alba Cooke (and Phoebe Such, mascot).
