Breaking News: Eagles consider life of crime after successful daylight robbery - Game 2 Report
Eagles Commit Daylight Robbery - Match 2 Report
So, we dodged a bullet there for sure!
Things were looking hopeful with a full team there well before kickoff time, but shit went downhill real quick once the warmup started. Balls went to ground, kicks went haywire and we looked a lot like a rabble. It took a bloody long time to get the yips out of our system and it could have been a lot different were it not for some poor kicking from the Blues and outstanding defence in the second half.
Match Report: Despite looking alright for the first couple of minutes, we soon let the Blues build up a good lead throughout the first half with some inaccurate kicking and lacklustre effort on defence. Stanley "Big Guns" Chung's return was highly anticipated and he rarely disappointed in an otherwise dodgy effort from the Eagles. We started to get our shit sorted in the second half with tighter defence and less turnover ball and uncontested marks for the Blues. We outright burgled the lead from the Blues with about 5 minutes to go and managed to hang on by the skin of our teeth until kicking a final goal to seal the match with seconds to spare.
Eagles: 10 - 12 - 72
Blues: 9 -10 - 64
VICTORY! We possibly didn't deserve it with our first half effort, but we got up over the Blues regardless, even if one of the refs did appear to have it in for us and Cougar Adam "fagballs" Baker engaging in outright skulduggery as a goal umpire. Chungy back on the park was a distinct highlight, as was Crichton's tireless work throughout the game. "Powerhouse" Morel did some stunning work at the back and newly converted Eagle Toby surely had more fun in one game playing for the Eagles than in all his games for the Bulldogs added together. Stellar defence in the final minutes of the fourth quarter helped seal the game for us and Captain Carden's outrageous snatch of a sure-fire Blues goal was an example of athleticism and coordination the like of which the Eagles haven't seen since yours truly tried (and failed) to smash a pallet with his feet in the aftermath of the cup win last season.
The first half (with a couple of exceptions). Too much turnover ball and a lack of options when trying to get up the park on attack meant we struggled to string marks together and have some continuity. Being completely Whitehead-less for the second week running was below par. Get to training on Wednesday so we can fix this up!
Dick of the Day:
Stan "Wayward Boot" Chung - miss a kick from out in front at your peril.
Player of the day:
Simon "Captain Fantastic" Carden - stellar work in the middle again, plus that steal to seal the victory.
