BREAKING NEWS!!!! We will be training this Thursday 6pm at Ray Blank Park.
Well lads, what a way to start the season!
The day was an action-packed display of prowess and skill. We are probably now the team everyone wants to beat so lets all make sure we get to training to work on the rough stuff and do some more dominating. The seasoned campaigners did the job and all the new players stepped up to the mark (literally in many cases). Leading up to kick-off the weather wasn't flash and we were looking a bit shaky on numbers leading up to warm-up time. Thankfully the stress levels decreased once the game started as the reinforcements had arrived.
Match Report: With Eagle stalwarts Simon and James Carden both away on a pre-season sex romp (not with each other) and few other seasoned campaigners away our backs were against the wall from the opening bounce. With this being said Eagles still managed to put together a strong team (27 players) which saw Hickey, Andy 'too tall' Jordan and Dil come out of retirement and plenty of new faces take the field. After conceding an early goal the Eagles then took charge and completely dominated the match, well the first half at least. Unfortunately we fell away late in the game but who cares we still won and we can work on our errors this week. Robles lead from the from the front and ran all day, Michael 'small calfs' Peters stepped up and controlled the back line and shut down numerous cougar raids. Andy Ireland made good on a 3 year old promise and finally donned the green and yellow and had blinder. Logan, Sam and Chris all had stand-out performances on debut also.
Eagles: 11 - 10 - 76 (Goals - Behinds - Total for the uninitiated)
Cougars: 10 - 11 - 71
Highlights:
- Winning!!!
- Having 27 players, 8 of them newbies.
- Scoring more goals than behinds
- The Return of Kris 'Gear Manager' Hickey
- Look sharp in the new gear.
- Ritchie's marking ability
- Conceding only 1 point in the 2nd QTR
- When you combine what we had on the sideline with what we had on the field it should be a pretty enjoyable season.
Lowlights: The second half of the the third quarter and pretty much the whole last quarter. Letting Baker walk from the ground uninjured was pretty shit too.
Dick of the Day:George Whitehead - In his 10th year for the Eagles George lasted 10 seconds before coming off injured. (most of that time was him coming from the field)
Player of the day:Richie
Social Report:Eagles BYO is this Saturday please confirm by Tuesday if your attending.
The Other Result:
Bulldogs: 11 - 10 - 76
Blues: 9 - 9 - 63
Next Game:Venue: Northwood Park
Opposition: Eastern Blues
Kick-off: 12:30
Be there: 11:45
Attitude: Dominant (White Trash destruction mode)
Facebook:Since we're so freaking exclusive, apparently you need someone who is already a member to invite you into the group. Actually, I believe this is so we can abuse the shit out of the other teams in a semi-public place without getting in trouble for slander and the like. This is the best place to get up-to-date information (i.e. when the fields are shut and we can't train). So, if you brought a friend along on Saturday, make sure you type their name in the wee box that says "+Add people to Group". It's immediately below Adrian in the banner picture up top.
Subs:The comp isn't free to play in, and the funds took a bit of a hit last year to cover the cost of the flash as new guernseys we now play in. Cough up, lads.
Subs are $60 with shorts and socks.
