WE NEED YOUR HELP TO TURN THE LIGHTS ON

On Wednesday 8th March 4-5pm we need as many Coolum Breakers parents and players as possible in and around our club house. Youth Girls, U14s and U16s are definitely required.

Why? Over the next 12-24 months, the Breakers Committee has set its sight on applying for and securing substantial grants to cover the cost of installing a game quality lighting system to shine on our great club. Coolum State High School are providing our club with significant in-kind support to assist us with this task, and we thank them for this. I have asked Paul (Ollie) Caspers, our esteemed grants man, to work closely with Coolum State High School and to take on this challenge. Ollie has done just that and has arranged for staff from Coolum Audio Visual department to film our players training, and to film players responses to the question "why would lights make a difference at our club". The resulting video will form an important part of Coolum Breakers Holden Home Ground Advantage Grant application, and will also be used for future grant applications.

So why would lights make a difference at our club? We've all been there in winter when its dark at 5pm and coaches are trying to finish their training sessions, and parents are trying to find their kids. Its obvious that lights will provide benefit to our players through improved quality and length of training sessions, bettering that of our rival clubs. Lights will eliminate any health and safety concerns we have training in poor light conditions and stopping when its too dark to safely train. Securing a game quality lighting sysem will also provide an additional revenue system for the club through our canteen when we can host friday night games. Lights will also contribute to the social life of the club by making our environment more inviting.

I encourage you all to ask your kids how they might answer that question.

So get on board and please help us flick the switch!

Andy Wood (Club President)
