2015 President's Report

Outgoing 2015 President Lynden Griffiths presented his report at the recent AGM to summarize the wonderful achievements made by the Coolum Beach JAFC over the past twelve months.

Sometimes it takes a document like this to just remind us of the great outcomes of everyone's efforts during 2015.

After 7 years serving our club and your children (inc. Pres, VP, committee person), Lynden is taking a well deserved step back so in 2016 don't forget to say G'day to that sad Collingwood supporter slumped in a deck chair at CHS most Sundays :)

Presidents Report 2015

Our football club has just finished one on its biggest years in our short history thanks to the dedication & commitment of our players, coaches and 2015 committee. Thank you to Glen Farrow, Kym Anderson, Russell Yule, Melissa Burke, Damien Glanville and Jenny & Chris Ansell for your contribution on our committee this year. Your efforts and legacy for our club will not be forgotten.

We can all be very proud as 2015 has seen the completion of the Breakers Facilities, something that will not only provide our Club with a home base for many years to come but also the Coolum State High School & the Coolum community in general. Whilst there is still work to be done fitting out the internals we have been able to dedicate many hours of time and labour to get it to a stage we can call it our HOME. Glen Farrow needs to be acknowledged for his work over the last 3 years to get our club in a position to build these facilities. So thank you Glen and all our past & current committee members for your contributions.

Again this year we were able to not only develop our players but also our coaches with many new (& old) faces joining the coaching ranks for the first time. Our players are the reason we do what we do for our club, our coaches are there week in week out trying to pass on the knowledge they have learnt over the years to develop individuals for the betterment of our club. I would like to thank all our coaches for your time and passion for the year. Thank you also to our all our Team Managers and other game day volunteers as without you our club doesn’t function.

Statistics are a football clubs best friend and ours are something to be proud of:

•    75,747 website hits
•     446 Facebook Friends (up 98 from last year)
•     155 Players (49 New)
•     130 Breakers App Members
•     40 Auskickers
•     29 Under 10’s
•     21 Under 8’s
•     18 Under 11’s
•     15 Representative Players
•     10 Coaches
•     8 Committee Members
•     8.5% more website stories
•     5 Under 6’s
•     5 Queensland players
•     4 Teams in the finals
•     1 International Player

Season 2015 has again seen the club ranked highly across the AFL Sunshine Coast with consistent positive feed back from rival clubs regarding our players and general sportsmanship always nice to hear.

We also had success at the AFL Sunshine Coast Presentation Awards Night with the following:

•    Kelsey Hayes – League B&F U/15 Youth Girls
•    Bri Noel – League B&F U/18 Youth Girls
•    Raegan Mills - League B&F U/18 Youth Girls
•    Cooper Birmingham - Runner Up League B&F U/15

The night culminated with our club winning our first ever AFL Sunshine Coast Club Of The Year. This award is testament to not only this year but of many years of continued hard work and always trying to do the right thing by our players, club and the league. We should walk away from this year with our heads held high. I hope future committees continue the path that we have laid by insisting that our players, coaches & parents abide by the rules & regulations of the league.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the valued support we have had from our sponsors of 2015. Jill & Warren from Jetts Coolum have been terrific supporters of our club for a number of years now and we simply could not operate without their corporate support. Our shirt sponsors in Skipper Plumbing, The Surf Club Sunshine Beach, Online Property Sales, Tensens Cleaning Supplies, Coolum Beach Hotel, Locality Energy Planning & Absolute Security & Private Investigation have all enjoyed seeing their names on over 200 shirts walking the streets of Coolum. I thank you all for your support.

Tim Johnson is the Breakers unsung hero and deserves our thanks for his tireless contribution to running our website day after day. His contribution to our club through our main social media outlet cannot be underestimated. Tim also organizers the Under 10 teams even though his son Hudson played Under 11’s. Thank you Timmy J.

Whilst this year we probably haven’t had our best year in raising money for our club we have been able to spend wisely within the new facility. Merchandise, The Breakers Bash, small raffles & the canteen are good sources of income but we really need someone to be working on Government Grants of various sizes to allow us to continue developing our Club. A canteen roster would be a must for 2016 to reduce our outgoings.

Our volunteers do a tremendous job for our club however too much work is left to too few.  Spread the workload needs to be a slogan for all clubs, especially ours in 2016. We all have work & family commitments and generally a busy lifestyle but all can contribute something, big, small or otherwise.

After 2 years as President, 2 as Vice President and 7 years on the committee and coaching I will be stepping down from the Presidents chair and the general committee for season 2016. This has been a challenging year for me juggling my family, work, coaching and the football club but it has been incredibly rewarding. Football clubs can be very emotional environments at times but I can honestly say I am pleased for what we have been able to achieve. I can walk away with some tremendous memories, some awesome friends and am proud that I put my hand up…

I, along with the committee can be extremely proud of what we have achieved this year.

Cheers, Go Breakers & may our club be #oneclub
