Welcome to Summer Season 2016/2017
After a very successful Winter Season, where over 75% of our 28 teams made finals, we now turn our attention to a new season ….. although it certainly doesn’t feel like Summer yet!
Registrations were strong and we have 32 teams (20 Boys and 12 Girls) competing this season
Pleasingly we have 3 Boys and 1 Girls U 8 Teams joining the Marcellin Community. These young players will be utilising a size 5 ball, and have the free throw line advanced 1.8m. This is great initiative by the EDJBA and its member clubs, which supports the development and enhancement of these young player skills
A couple of other rule changes for the Summer Season
- No Zone Policy for U8-U14
- 3 Points included for U13 and above
- 3 Seconds in the key for U13 and above (as opposed to 5 seconds for U8-U12)
- Size 7 ball for U15 and above Boys
- Game Fees $8
A big thankyou to our Boys and Girls Co Coordinators , Greta, Brenna, Andrew and Patrice who have worked very hard to compile this season’s teams based on skills and capabilities. Whilst every effort is made to accommodate special requests, it is not always possible and I know that a small number of people may be disappointed at the outcomes, however, I’d encourage you to remember that it is for only one season.
At this time of the season a number of teams are still without team managers, and if your child’s team is in that situation, please consider stepping up. It really is very easy and you will be contributing to the success of your child’s team. There are plenty of resources to assist and other parents who have done it before will more than happily show you the ropes.
Similarly, if you are interested in coaching, perhaps have a chat to your team’s Coach. You can sit on the bench and assist, which is a great way to learn.
Also, if you would like to become more involved in the direction and running of the Club, the Committee is always looking for new members to assist. In fact we are looking for an Assistant Treasurer (vacancy) and a Club Secretary (succession planning)!!! It is very rewarding and we welcome fresh ideas and input.
Before I close off I should highlight that all members of the Club are bound by the EDJBA’s Code of Conduct , as we recently had an issue where this was transgressed : Code of Conduct - Eastern Districts Junior Basketball Association (EDJBA) - SportsTG
All officials and administrators within the EDJBA are volunteers and whilst there will be times where you may not agree with their decision, they deserve to be treated with respect….as do opposing players.
Here’s to a very enjoyable and successful Summer 2016 / 2017 season
