17th Grade Girls: Pukekohe AFC Match Report - #14

2015 Grade 17 Girls Match Reports

The season certainly ended with a BANG! Hopes were extremely positive prior to the start of this game that the MIGHTY Toey would bow out on a high and they certainly did that.

It took 15 minutes for the Reds to get out of the starting blocks, but once they did it was at a furious pace and all the way to the final whistle.

Toey took the lead from a penalty, when Ally was brought down to her knees in the area, who then wiped the mud from her knees and hands before calmly slotting the ball to the right of the keeper to get Papatoetoe off the mark.

It wasn't long before the Reds scored again, this time it was a darting run from Nga, who finished with a looping, long range effort that left the keeper wishing she was a foot taller, as it escaped her reach and landed firmly in the back of the net.

Next up it was Manu, who received the ball 35 yards out, then took a couple of touches to control it before launching an unstoppable rocket into the bottom corner to make the score 3-0.

Shortly after half time Leonie received the ball just over the half way line and travelled a good 20 yards before cutting inside the despairing defender to play a crisp one-two with Jodel, which saw her receive the ball again just outside the box, a couple more touches and then came the almighty crack caused by the sheer force of boot connecting with ball, followed shortly afterwards by the ripple of the net.

There were a number of long range goals in this game, but one of the best has to be the lob from Morgan, which came from a good 30 yards away from goal. It had everything, power pace, direction and the flapping keeper could do nothing to prevent Toey going 5 goals up.

A couple of minutes later Sarah found herself through on goal after a great piercing pass from Ally set her up one on one with the keeper, as cool as ice Sarah slotted the ball to the left of the keeper to claim her first goal of the game.

It wasn't long before Sarah grabbed her second after finding herself on the edge of the box with the Pukekohe keeper racing out to block her shot, however a quick thinking clever, but cheeky little chip saw the keeper stranded and the ball bouncing towards the empty net and despite a good effort by the defender goal number 7 was added to the score line.

Last goal of the game went to Jodel Kerr, who neatly wrong footed and placed the ball past the keeper after a clearance found her on the edge of the box.

Despite the score line, it wasn't all Papatoetoe and had it not been for a sterling performance by everyone in the team it could have been so different. With that in mind the Girl of the Game award went to all of the players for a splendid team effort and win, which set up the post-match buffet and get together in the club rooms.
