2016/2017 Summer Sevens - Draw, Results and Table
This is mainly for the new teams, but is a handy reminder for teams that have played previously… There is not much point in complaining to us after your game that you thought the referee had either made some wrong decisions, or that he/she was against you or your team.
As we are obviously unable to watch every game, we (and you) have to take the ref's decisions as final. We have no time for judiciary meetings, and we are unable, and unwilling, to enter into discussions in these matters. We will only consult with the referees to clarify issues, such as incorrect identification of players who may be red carded.
What you MUST understand is that the referees have NO interest in the outcome of the game, and have NO agenda against any of you or your team, they simply play it as they see it. If you watch any professional football on TV, you can see that refs at that level sometimes make mistakes, which are picked up on cameras from different angles.
If you are a footballer of any note, you will know and understand this, and how it can happen. Refs can only see a certain amount in their field of vision, so they can only play what they see.
If there's one piece of advice I would give you, it would be to treat your referee nicely – you catch more flies with honey than vinegar! Treat him/her well, and he'll be more disposed to treat you well!
Next issue regards attendance in the club after the games. While this is not mandatory, it is a significant part of supporting the club over summer, plus, we have awards, draws and raffles worth over $250 every night. Teams that do not attend will not be entered into the draws until they resume attendance, and all product, if not won outright, will be distributed on the night. Awards are done at 8pm.
So please make the effort to support the club and the tournament by staying for a beer or soft drink, maybe enjoy some food.
OK, we'll see you next week!
