Update from committee - 19/10/2015

Dear North Lakes Eels Community

The newly elected committee had our first meeting today. At the conclusion of the meeting we have an understanding of where we are at as a Club and as a community. Our goal remains to ensure that North Lakes Eels is a successful club in it’s own right and a few years down the track watching some of our players drafted into the AFL or play in the NEAFL.

New roles
To be a successful club and to be a big club, we need to think and act like a big club. We want to attract more players to the Eels, so we can keep the talent we have here. We want to be known for our free flowing, attacking fair football. In order for this to happen, we need to have the right people in the right roles. The committee has identified three roles that are required to take this club forward. These roles will report directly to the President of the Eels and will make up the Eels Football Department. These roles are as follows:

• Director of Coaching
• Recruitment Coordinator
• Auskick Coordinator

Today the committee unanimously voted in favour of appointing Duane Hoey as Director of Coaching. Duane Hoey was the coach of the under 9’s this past season. Duane has brought a professionalism to junior coaching that is unrivalled in our geographic area. This is endorsed by a quote from one of the coaches that we play against, which was “we model ourselves on your team”. Duane will volunteer his time to oversee our coaches at all levels in the Eels. This will ensure that we are all coaching with the same end in mind – attacking and fair football. This will be the North Lakes Eels brand.

The 2nd position of Recruitment Coordinator, will work closely with the Director of Coaching, the Auskick Coordinator and the President. This role will be responsible for recruiting players in the area, with the support of the committee, to the mighty North lakes Eels, so that we can expand our playing roster. I would like to ask for expressions of interest of this volunteer position to be forwarded to northlakesjuniors@aflbj.com by 02 November 2015 so we can get started on recruiting players. In your expression of interest, please provide an outline, no more than two paragraphs, on how you see this role being fulfilled and how we can attract new players.

The 3rd position of Auskick Coordinator, will coordinate the Auskick program run by the North Lakes Eels. This role will feed in nicely with the Director of Coaching and Recruitment Coordinator by creating a pathway for future players of the club. I would like to ask for expressions of interest for this volunteer position to be forwarded to northlakesjuniors@aflbj.com by 02 November, 2015. In your expression of interest, please provide an outline, no more than two paragraphs and explain any experience you have had with coaching or coordinating a similar program.

All volunteer positions will attract a discount in fees for next season. If we can lock these three key positions away, then we have a solid foundation to build on.

Blue Cards
One of the criteria that we will be bringing in, is that all volunteers associated in working with children, be it the President, Treasurer, Coach, Director of Coaching and so on, will either have to have an existing blue card (working with children authorisation) or be willing to apply for one, which we can assist with.

AFL Conference
I will be attending an AFL conference this weekend where I should have the opportunity to network and hopefully build some strong connections. We are fortunate that we have been provided with a spot at the conference to present about our creed. A thanks goes to the previous committee for submitting the application, which has been accepted.

School Oval/Sponsorship
I also hope to have meetings with stakeholders involved in the new oval at St. Benedicts over the next couple of weeks. Once these meetings have taken place, we will be able to identify sponsorship packages and of course offer these to our existing supportive sponsors first.

All existing Eels members should receive an email this week from the AFL Queensland regarding registrations for next season. At the committee meeting today, Sheree Esparon has taken on the role of registrar. If there are any questions regarding registrations please email northlakesjuniors@aflbj.com and we will endeavor to answer your question.

More news will be relayed over the next couple of weeks as we strive to keep the Eels community informed. We do expect that there will be an event happening mid to late November, where we would appreciate the Eels community support.

Thank you

Dean Graham
