A Message From The President

Well what a busy month it has been! Firstly, I’d like to take the opportunity to say thanks to everyone for taking the time to come and say hi to me since I have taken on the Presidents role. I'm furiously learning parents and kids names so please excuse me if I don’t get it right the first time, and if I haven’t spoken to you yet please feel free to grab me for a chat. It has been a fairly hectic induction with a number of new teams springing from the earth in my first three days but I have enjoyed the process and the support provided by the committee and player families has not gone unnoticed.

A warm welcome to the new families that have recently joined the club either as part of the new Under 13 team or as families in other age groups – I hope you have settled in well. The feedback from ALL the junior and youth teams has been extremely positive – new parents and kids across all the age groups have taken the time to introduce themselves to other families and get involved in various roles, whether ground marshal or canteen, which is just fantastic to see. One of the reasons I chose to get involved in this club in the first place was the strong family atmosphere and the influx of new faces is great for the club.

The new committee have been working diligently in the background on keeping things moving for this season but also planning for the 2017 season is well underway. There are a number of new positons that have either been filled or are near to being filled in the coming weeks. These include;

•         Sponsorship Coordinator
•         Grants Manager
•         Coaching Coordinator

These roles are important to spread the load on the existing committee, but also target skill sets for certain individuals who may wish to specialise in a particular area and support the club. The thought of getting involved at a committee level may be daunting to some but a more focused role that only involves 2-3 hours a week is much more appealing. If you think you have a particular skill set that may be of benefit to Yeronga Juniors, whether that be fundraising, sales, or even Social Media/Website skills then please feel free to contact one of the committee.

I recently attended a Presidents meeting and there were a number of topics that I thought beneficial to share with you:

Communication – please note that all contact with AFLBJ must go via myself as President. If you have any concerns or queries around anything to do with the Brisbane Juniors Program, then please contact your Team Manager who can channel your information through to me and I can liaise with AFLBJ to get you a response.

Abuse at Junior Games – The AFLBJ presented a slide pack and short video on abuse at junior games which I thought was very powerful. I will be sharing this information via our website or email as soon as it is available to me and I would urge all parents, players and support staff to review in detail and discuss in your teams. We are all here with the intention of having fun and so should all be vigilant on abuse at our games.

Please stay tuned for information regarding photo day – we are just finalising the details regarding this and will send out some communication on this shortly.

Go Devils

President - Yeronga JAFC
