Lions Academy Talent ID Camp At Coorparoo
The Hyundai Help For Kids Lions Academy aims to identify male and female talented players as young as 12 years of age who are not already in the Academy. Players identified at Talent ID Camps and singed to the Academy are exposed to elite training and coaching aimed to take their development through to drafting age for the NAB Draft and NAB Rookie Draft.
Players without an AFL background still have the opportunity to join the academy through the Athlete Rookie Search program. Run in conjunction with AFL Queensland, this program aims to give male and female atheletes from all sports the opportunity to access elite player pathways in AFL.
Athletes are identified by our Talent Identification Officers and then tested for key athletic attributes and skills required to become an elite AFL player.
Players including Jono Freeman, Liam Dawson, Archie Smith, Ben Keays, Eric Hipwood, Reuben William, Matthew Hammelmann and Harris Andrews have all been drafted to the Brisbane Lions after coming up through the Hyundai Help for Kids Lions Academy.

How it all Fits Together - The Pathway
The Lions Academy is one step on the path a Coorparoo Junior AFC player will take to becoming a professional AFL player. Our Junior players are identified by the Academy and are given the opportunity to develop in this advanced training programme.
This involvement continues as the CJAFC player then moves on to our Coorparoo Senior AFC Colts (U18) team and on to play in Senior footy as a Coorparoo King. NEAFL selection is made from the Senior AFC ranks of our club and that then progresses to becoming an AFL player
For Girls, a full pathway also exists at CAFC where girls transition from Junior Under 17 teams to Coorparoo Senior Women's teams. AFL talent is cultivated from early ages in Club footy right through to Senior teams. CAFC have a VERY strong female programme.
The number of kids that make it to professional footy are, of course, limited. The great thing is that, regardless of a player's talent, they can all continue to play footy after Juniors at Coorparoo in the Colts and Seniors teams.
