Congratulations to Leah Groppi, Georgia Kitchell & Lachie Batchelor

Apollo Basketball Club is proud of all our players and love to share when any of them achieve great success. So can imagine we are bursting to announce three of our players will be participating with their Diamond Valley Eagles teams in the 2016 Australian U14 Club Championships in Newcastle, September 26 – October 1.

Both Under 14 Girls and Boys teams were selected, with only three teams being selected from Victoria to represent.

Both teams are fundraising to assist with cost associated with travelling to Newcastle. If you would like to assist and donate, there are links below

Leah Groppi

Leah first started playing basketball at age 6 for Eltham in the EDJBA competition, and one of her first memories is winning first grand final in under 8’s Eltham EDJBA.  Leah started VJBL with Eltham Wildcats at age 9, and joined Apollo Rockets and DV Eagles in 2015.

Leah has a wide range of basketball achievements. She has been runners up in the Adelaide Easter Classic, and finished 3rd in state finals for St Helena Secondary College school team.

The ACE program student at St Helena Secondary College has received Principals Awards and Academic Achievement Awards. Leah also received a Literacy Scholarship at end of primary school, as well as qualifying as a regional finalist for 100m sprint.

Leah would like to say thank-you to "everyone who has supported me and helped me throughout my basketball years, including all coaching staff."

Georgia Kitchell

Georgia started playing for Apollo Basketball club in under 8s.

Whilst Georgia has suffered an ACL tear knee injury seeing her out for a year Georgia has committed to the team. Rarely does she miss a training or opportunity to cheer from the side.

The injured tall has had many great moments in her basketball career so far. Representing Victoria at the Pacific School Games, winning GOLD as well as being selected to represent Vic Metro at the Southern Cross Challenge there's a bright future ahead.

The St Helena Secondary College loves to play Aussie Rules Football for the St Marys sharks and was 4th in the Yarra Junior Football League U12.

Georgia went to Apollo Parkways Primary school and was voted Primary School Vice Captain and was awarded School Sport Victoria Outstanding Sports and Academic award.

Georgia's favourite player is Patty Mills and she would like to thank her family including Mum, Dad, Nick and Ty for their support!

We wish Georgia a speedy recovery!

Lachie Batchelor

Lachie has played basketball for the Apollo Rockets since starting Prep at Apollo Parkways Primary School in 2009. In his final year at Apollo Primary he had the honour of being the sport’s captain.

Lachie has played a total of 210 games and played for 14 seasons for the Apollo Rockets. He has been a loyal and dedicated player for Apollo.  Outside of basketball, Lachie attends Parade College and is an accomplished swimmer and water polo player.
