ROUND NINE REVIEWS | C GRADE Netball

Woodend/Hesket had a disappointing 20-26 loss against Broadford. It was a game that the team felt it could definitely win.

After an excellent win against Riddell, the team was quietly confident of beating Broadford and cementing a place in the top six. Unfortunately, with some more injuries and player unavailabities, they went into the game a little light on in defence and Jess Thorne from the 19/u team was asked to step up.

The team again started well but a lapse in concentration and an inability to capitalise on turnovers in the second term had them 9-14 down at half time.

The Hawks were never really able to reduce the margin over the next half. Despite the defenders playing a great game and giving the team every opportunity to benefit from a rebound or an intercept, they struggled to get the ball down the court and effectively into their goal ring.

Jess played a wonderful game in GK. Coming on in the second quarter, she gave the Hawks height in the ring and pulled in lots of rebounds and intercepts. She was a fabulous asset to the team.

Courtney Arthurson worked hard all game, driving forward for the ball and creating opportunities in the attacking end. Jazz Gardner followed up her great game from last week, continually trying to get into space in the ring and working with Alex to find the best option to take a shot.

The Hawks have another really good chance against Rockbank and with a consistent four quarter effort, the coaches know the team can get back to the form they had against Riddell. They need to work on some things at training and bring a positive effort to each and every game. They need to play our game and concentrate on our strengths. Go Hawks!
