Vale Laurie 'Banker' O'Brien

It is with tremendous sadness today that we pass on the news that Laurie O’Brien passed away this morning at the age of 83.
‘Banker’ is truly a legend  of our club. The change rooms at Gilbert Gordon are named the Laurie O'Brien Pavilion, our Senior Best & Fairest is named in his honour, Life Member, Treasurer for 30 plus years, Premiership Player and up until this year was still time keeping for the seniors until his health deteriorated over the past couple of months.
‘Banker’ was also a life member of the Riddell District Football Netball League and the runner up in the League Best & Fairest is awarded a medal named in his honour which shows the esteem he was held in not just at our club but throughout the League.
‘Banker’ was also a life member of the Woodend CFA and Woodend Bowls Club and was the long time local bank manager in town so he was a huge figure not just at our club but around the whole community.
He truly is one of if not the most influential people in the history of our club and his tireless work will be remembered forever.
‘Banker’ we are forever indebted to you, from all at the club we pass on our deepest condolences to his family and friends, R.I.P. great man we will never forget you #banker #legend
