Pre-Season Starts 27th January, 2016
Training (this will be right throughout 2016) will be basically broken up into two sections. First, we start with small groups working on specific skills. So there may be four or five different groups working on centre bounce setup, or throw-in and bounce set up, or forwards leading, or controlling the ball in a contested situation, or five on five contests. We will teach a significant number of you how to play on ball, even if it’s only five minutes at a time. We need much more rotation through the middle, and you’ll be given every opportunity to prove yourselves.
All of this is working on your skills and understanding game day setup.
Then we join the groups and work on our full ground setups – setting up at kick-ins, setting up at ball ups, setting up at throw-ins. Your job will not always be getting the ball, you will learn to support your team mates to get the ball. You will realise quickly that you are expected be in a certain position even if the ball is at the other end.
You will hear the terms “quarterback” and “receiver” used until it makes your ears bleed.
You need to understand how important this is for us to win games.
We guarantee that when you attend you will get something out of it.
For this reason, we will be holding training in the first two months on Monday and Wednesday nights at 6.30PM, and Saturday mornings will continue at 9AM.
