CLAYTON OLIVER WINS JOHN BYRNE MEDAL

Mooroopna’s Clayton Oliver has capped off an extraordinary season by winning the prestigious John Byrne Medal as the Murray Bushrangers Best & Fairest Player. The Morrish Medallist added to his trophy cabinet on the back of a strong finish to the season where he polled 12 votes in the last 5 games to finish with 30 Votes. Oliver thanked the Mooroopna Football Club and his parents Michelle and Steve for their support throughout his career whilst praising the work of Murray Bushrangers High Performance Manager Matt Glossop and Lead Physiotherapist Marty Hogan. “The high performance and medical team have been great the way they have increased my fitness throughout the season, I had to work hard and these guys made sure I did that”

Dynamic midfielder Murray Waite capped off an excellent season being named Runner Up Best & Fairest. “After a slow start to the season, I felt my form improved during the year particularly after the opportunity to play in the Werribee VFL program “

Ryan Garthwaite took all before his this season as he settled into the defensive unit where his intercept making and abiilty to set up play were a feature of his game. Backline coach Ross Hill was full of praise “I don’t think he lowered his colours all year, we went into every game confident that Ryan’s opponent would have little influence”

Laurie Hammond, Peter McIntyre and Justin McMahon all received 5 year service awards whilst Brenton Whale was named Staff Person of the Year.

Coach Darren Ogier was acknowledged for his contribution to the region with a framed Murray Bushrangers jumper with the names of the 195 players he has coaches since 2010.
