NAB League Girls: Round 5 Preview

After a month of bad luck, the Jets girls are still looking for their first win. This week they will meet the Greater Western Victorian Rebels who have also been struggling this year with only one win for the season. Western will be playing at their first home game for the season but unfortunately, they will be without key players Cleo Saxon Jones and Ruby Tripodi. So far Nikita Wright, Cleo Saxon Jones, and Isabella Grant have been the only goal scorers for the Jets this season. This factor must change this weekend in order to give the girls some hope. New heroes must emerge and stand up for their team.

Possible key matchups

Elisabeth Georgostathis vs Sophie Molan

Georgostathis has played across as a half-back flank for the last couple of games, but with the loss of Ruby Tripodi, she is needed in the midfield once again. Molan has been racking up possessions since the competition started. A head-to-head battle between these two midfield guns could prove very interesting

Taylah Kolevski vs Maggie Caris

Caris is without a doubt a ruck to be feared as she is the hit-out queen of NAB League Girls. Caris averages 10.2 more hit-outs than any other ruck in the competition. Kolevski had her hands full last week in the ruck but now she must face the best. She may need the help of Isabelle Pitchard to help shoulder this responsibility otherwise Caris could dominate.

Lauren Sykes vs Laura Wright

Last week Sykes had seven rebounds from her defensive 50. Wright could be the player they need to shutdown Sykes and give her forwards an opportunity at goal. This will be a tough as Sykes is a key defensive weapon, Wright must find a new gear in order to compete with this Rebel.
