Chisari the hero for BSSC Lions

“It come to a stoppage with I don’t know how many seconds left on the clock, ‘Chisa’ won the clearance and got tripped,” BSSC Lions coach David Newett said.

“I think just about every player on the field was around the stoppage. He was 30 or 35m out, went back and kicked it.

“With two or three minutes to go we kicked two goals quickly, the boys fought it out well after coming back from four goals down at half-time.

“We started really well, then they piled it on in the second quarter. The third quarter was a bit of a grind and then the last quarter was a bit of an arm-wrestle. Luckily we snuck ahead at full-time.”

After taking a two-goal lead into quarter time, the Lions were swamped in the second term as Essendon-Keilor booted six goals to one.

Trailing by nine points at three-quarter time, BSSC’s hopes of advancing to the semi-finals of the School Sports Victoria premier league football series were on the line.

But after going down to Catholic College Bendigo by eight points in the series opener, the Lions players were determined not to lose another tight match and prevailed to set-up another must-win clash against Ballarat High at Eureka Stadium on June 2.

Andy Meade booted four goals for BSSC, with Jonty Entwistle was the other multiple goal-kicker with three majors.

Regan Harvey, Jake Millar and full-forward Matt Gray bagged a goal each. Jordan Mangan played a dominant match, swapping between the ruck and the forward line, while Danny Jones, Ben Lester and Luke Marchesi held the BSSC defence together.

BSSC 2.2 3.2 6.4 11.5 (71) d Essendon-Keilor 0.2 6.3 7.7 10.9 (69).

BSSC best – Jacob Chisari, Jordan Mangan, Danny Jones, Andy Meade, Galen Munari, Ben Lester, Luke Marchesi.
