Round 13 - Strathfield Raiders White vs Leichhardt Juniors Orange

We last  met today's opponents back in round 4 and on that day the Raiders came out convincing winners playing a quick and expansive game.  The team Strathfield found themselves up against today would prove to be vastly a vastly different one and if the Raiders expected the same result, boy, were they in for a shock.

From the kick off you could be forgiven you were watching a first grade standard game; it could have been Origin 3 such was the quality of the football served up from both teams.  The defence from both sides was outstanding and it's so good to see how the players growing and improving. To underline this we saw just 2 tries, one from each side in the first period.   Huss again came to Leichhardt's rescue to open the scoring and make sure we had points on the board as the first period came to an end. This was the story of the game, taking your opportunities as gaps in defence were going to be rare and were you had to work hard to create chances.

The game see-sawed all morning as each team just refused to back down.  It was a genuine pleasure to watch, the crowd were involved in each tackle, every darting run and cheered as the boys and girls from Balmain across the white stripe. Oscar was typically busy and bagged himself a double keeping the scoreboard ticking over.   As was fitting with the excitement and quality on show the final result was not settled until the last seconds ticked over.  Three tries to four behind and as the full time hooter sounded, Puff darted down the blind side from a quick tap and managed to pass off in traffic to Eric who had who crabbed across the line found himself in space on the Raiders right and powered his way over the line to level up and bring what has to be the game of season to a thrilling close.

Well done Juniors...Honourable mentions to Jaedyn, Jaii, Jude, Thomas and Tyran for a fantastic TEAM effort.

MOM - A superb effort from Will who returned today for his first game after a long injury lay off. Will tackled all morning and had a couple of superb runs.

Tries - Huss, Oscar x 2 and Eric

Leichhardt juniors were well matched against a Homebush side that were strong on defence. This meant that there were no easy tries and line breaks were few and far between. Tries came from sheer grit and determination through the middle. This suited the playing styles of both Richard and Michael who were rewarded with tries by bustling up the middle and fending off tackles. Elijah and Kit were particularly feisty in attack and Xander had the best game of his career with some good ball awareness and sidestepping. Xander was man of the match. Looks like little athletics is paying off as Gary junior is showing some good speed both in attack and defence. Sheer speed is what got him his try.

Ryan and Lochlan were solid in defence and Micha and Lucas steady in attack. All in all a good game against a pretty good team!

The Leichhardt Juniors u/9 Orange side played the North Ryde Hawks in round 13 at Birchgrove Oval.

What a great display of skills from our boys. The full time score read 36 - 6 in our favour with our boys running in 7 tries to 1.

All the hard work put in at training definitely showed on Sunday and our boys should be so proud of their efforts - Well done again boys.

Our man of the match this week went to Ashtyn, Xander and Max who all had a fantastic game.

Our under 8 white played Strathfield Raiders on the weekend, what a game.

Was a great game to watch, our juniors are learning week by week what do do on the field without

Coach instructions.

The boys/girl were playing and tackling well, not letting the opposition make ground.

Daniel big side steps led him to score three tries within the first 10 mins getting his hatrick

Max was the next getting away from the team / running up the side line and scoring.

Strathfield was finding very hard to score against the white team, they were trying to

run up the side line because our defence was too strong in the middle only finding out

being tackled into the side line.

Leonardo was home sick on the day and wasn’t able to play

Puff was one of our reserves on the day as well as Micha and Gary.

Puff scored an easy try with the first touch of the ball (as always she has the Midas touch)

Damien always running hard at the players and also scoring a try.

Adam had a big run busting through players and also scoring,

Micah proved he was a pocket rocket playing up a grade and scoring a try.

Conversions were kicked successfully by Daniel, Finn, Max, Adam and Micha.

Finn creating some nice tackles with Anthony and Romeo joining in.

Sebastian’s talent has improved running his biggest run yet only to be tackled short of the line, almost

to score his first try. He played well on the day and also took out Man of the Match.

We won the game 8 tries to 3 kicking 5 conversions.  Go the Juniors

UNDER 11

Junior Wall Report: Sunday 7 July. Leichhardt Wanderers White Vs. Leichhardt Juniors .  Juniors Win 40 - 12.

Our boys finally got to play footie again and came away with a solid win of 40-12 over the Wanderers White team.

A strong performance by our Junior Wall, with bruising runs into the Wanderers defence in the first half paving the way for a second half dismantling for the Wanderers.   First half Juniors led 14 - 6, with strong runs by Malachi Matoe, Hwan Inverso and Dylan Cowin damaging the Wanderers.  Jake Jorgensen was on 'fire' and was strong out of marker defence and hard to stop in attack, he ended up scoring a hat-trick of tries for the game.  In the second half, the experience of our Juniors showed, as we held the ball and continued to run in the tries. Wanderers began to fade quickly.

A first this week, with Sharbel Nadal scoring his first try for the Juniors - well done Sharbel and great running.  Also, a first for Dylan Brown, who scored his first try and also made strong runs.  Our man of match was Jake Jorgensen, scoring tries ( one a huge dive over try line ) and darting out of marker defence was a constant menace.  Sharbel picked up 2 points and Dylan Brown a point.  Overall, well played Juniors and next week we are tested again vs The Shamrocks.
