AN ODE TO COACHES
They teach the game to kids of all ages,
Putting up with crying kids and their parents’ rages.
Through all the winter weather, rain, wind and cold
The coach tries out new ideas- some of them quite bold.
If they work, he’s a genius, brilliant and a gun.
If they don’t, he gets shafted as just another bum.
The coach cannot please everyone, the player, even mum or dad.
However, he makes important calls and often ends up sad.
He’s given his all for your kids as well as mine.
He’s knocked back just being a "gunna" and given his time.
Sometimes the ball bounces for you and sometimes not.
Sometimes the players remember game plans but for some, they forgot.
Of course the coach will be held to blame and cop all the flak –
But it’s him that will turn up next season and have another crack.
So if you don’t like the coach and the way he puts the test,
Why don’t you have a go yourself and see if you’re the best.
You’ll see that it’s a game of inches deciding win or lose
So instead of whining and complaining try walking in the coach’s shoes.
