JUNIORS REPORT ROUND 10
Leichhardt Juniors showed guts and determination against a team that, up until this point in the competition, had only known victory. Our fighting spirit shone through with dogged defence and great team cohesion. Gary Jr. had a stand-out game with good awareness and ball control as well as aggression in attack. You could tell that Michael, who was man of the match, just loved running up the middle a la Petero Civoniciva, drawing defenders and allowing for off load opportunities. His efforts were rewarded with a try in the corner.
Micha and Richard excelled in attack against a strong defence and Elijah, Ryan and Lochlan put in their two bobs worth as usual with strong tackling around the legs.
Lucas combined well with Xander to wrap up the attack in the middle and Josiah and Noah were gutsy with their ball running.
Even though we drew, this game was a stand out and shows what quality football we are capable of playing.
Well done boys!
UNDER 8 ORANGE
After the rain off last week, Leichhardt Juniors Orange were raring to go this week and with a home fixture in the chilly sunshine all the signs looked good.
Our opposition Enfield Federals had come to play as always and it was a battle of the defences straight from the kick off. Jaedyn set the tone with some outstanding defence that forced the Federals to turn the ball over early on. Juniors pressed with several raids on the Enfield line only to come up short as the Federals really muscled up. Finally the line was broken by some pace from Oscar as he went over in the corner. The remainder of the first period saw each defence cancel each other out and it looked like we would go to the first break with just the one try on the board just as Oscar broke through again for his and Junior's second.
Some great defensive work from Puff and Jaii saw several Enfield efforts come up short. It was this pressure from our defence that lead to Huss getting his first of the day. After already being denied twice by some fantastic goal line defence Huss crossed Federal's line with a well deserved try just as the bell sounded to bring the second period to a close.
Enfield began the third period with an error on the half way line after great tackling from Captain of the day Thomas, who was again every where today. From the resulting tap Jude ran at the Enfield defensive line, stepped right, fended and with a burst of speed crossed the line for a great individual effort. Almost immediately Enfield struck back with a try in the corner for their second and the game opened up. Huss after some great fend work of his own streaked away and scored his second before Federals hit straight back. Samson at this point took matters into his own and from the restart looked up and just bolted down the line leaving everyone in his wake to score and close out the game 6 tries to 3.
Man of the Match for never giving up in attack and defence - Henecee (Huss) Taione.
JUNIOR WALL REPORT. Juniors vs Wanderers Black. Juniors Win 22-12.
The Junior Wall was at it best on Sunday, playing the Wanderers Black who sit above us on the table. It was a MUST Win game for our Juniors to move towards the top 4 position.
Our Juniors were fired up for the game and had a great first half with a lead of 16 - 6 at half time. Our big boys tore into the Wanderers defence with hard running and tackling. The Hwan "steam-train" Inverso was on 'fire'. Hwan, lead the charge ripping into the Wanderers defence with hard running and was also bruising in cover defence. His partner up front, Malachi, was just as damaging with 2 great 60 meter runs leaving a trial of bodies behind, sucking in defenders for the Juniors to score from his lead-up. These two boys took our Man of Match performances.
Captain courageous - Dylan Cowin, was tireless for the team, tackling, running and covering all parts of the field.
Alex Campbell and Harrison Henson were also great in attack and both were outstanding in defence, they never gave-up. Other great efforts by Rory Plummer, Mischa Browne, Tom Dobbin and Jake Jorgensen who were always backing up in attack, a nice skill we are building. Great defence by Mark Henderson, Sharbel Nadal and Tristan who continued to hold the Junior Wall. Jordan Marsden made some good runs into the attack and Marcus McNulty pulled off small guy on big guy tackles. Dylan Brown enjoyed he's role at dummy half and made some good runs.
A great team effort, and a fired-up JUNIOR WALL>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Thanks and GO THE JUNIOR WALL>>>>>>>
