JUNIORS REPORT - ROUND 3
Secretary, Melissa Taione sent the following message to Balmain JRL in praise of the help we received from Strathfield Raiders.
“Just wanted to let you know that we had a fantastic day down at King George yesterday and everything ran very smoothly. The help we had from Chris and Charlie was brilliant and the Strathfield Raiders members were so quick to offer their help. So much so that when asked what we needed help with I replied that we needed the rolls cut - I was only joking but two of their club members (I forgot to grab their names) jumped at the chance and cut 400 bread rolls for us! We ended up selling every last roll too!
What could have been a disaster of a day ended up being really enjoyable due to all the hard work that was put in by everyone involved.
Please pass on our gratitude to the Strathfield Raiders and especially the two gentlemen who cut our rolls! “
Our Junior Wall U11's fought bravely against Enfield to lose the game 42-6.
The positives from this game were not giving up in the second half with the Junior Wall, losing the 2nd half 18-6. We scored our first try of season.
Our boys are learning that in Division1, mistakes, even little ones get punished.
The score could have been better as Enfield scored 3 tries from kick-returns. By the time we got to the ball receiver, they broke first tackler and then went all the way. Junior Wall didn’t move up together. Two other tries were scored from drop-balls, where again, the JUNIOR one on one tackle wasn’t completed on the turn-over, with tries following......
Some standouts - Jake Jorgensen had a supreme game - wearing his new shoulder pads, he was fearless in defence and taunted Enfield in attack. This earned him Man of Match. Harrison and Rory ran hard and tackled well. Some other strong defence and runs from Tom, Hwan, and Sharbel. The Team earned '1' point each for their efforts all game.
At half-time, The Junior WALL was coming down, but Coach Pete Jorgo and trainer Warren asked them to stick it out and tackle for each other and not give in. They did so bravely - the JUNIOR WALL ROSE AGAIN; we scored a try and only allowed 3 in. The best half of football this year.
My memory after the game, were the smiles on the boy’s faces as we told them how brave they were. Also, after we were walking to the car to leave, JUNIOR FAN car " loaded " with parents and kids ( breaking every road safety record in NSW), beeped the horn, waving and smiling, yelling...Go Juniors as they drove-off...... Thanks guys and remind them they are champions.
Leichhardt Juniors were evenly matched on Sunday just scraping through with a one try win. Two brilliant solo tries from Elijah (man of the match) and some close call defence from Micah ensured the wanderers were pegged back. Richard was instrumental in attack off the back of a handy off-load from Lucas, who needed to make up for some sloppy defence which we will be working on this week (or there will be no supper). All in all a solid team effort reminiscent of the glorious performances of last year.
UNDER 8 WHITE
Under 8 Whites played a hard game this week against North Ryde Hawks, Max being the first to score followed by another great try from Puff. Our team played well with Damien going over the try line and just being pushed out to score a try. Daniel’s try saving tackle kept them from scoring a try in the last few minutes, our team winning 12-10 with conversions. Man of the Match went to Anthony for tackling, listening and playing well throughout the game. Finn made some fantastic tackles and was made Captain for the day. Finn also celebrated his birthday on this day – Happy Birthday Finn. Overall, the team did a great job with a coach on the field. Keep up the good work Juniors!!
