Beautiful weather greeted us as we arrived at Holy Cross School for the start of the Benny Elias Shield. The parents were more nervous than the players……was that a good thing? Of course it was. At least the players didn’t have to worry about it.

To our U12's, it didn't go your way today, however you can hold your head high for getting as far as you did. To our U13's and U15's, we will come back next year with vengeance and fire. Big huge congratulations to you all.

I could not believe the standard of play from our players – absolutely outstanding. This has to reflect on the standard of coaches and trainers we have in the club who have given so much of their time to coach our young ones. No team can run without the managers at the helm, organising and relaying messages to parents/caregivers. That in itself is time consuming. An enormous part of all of this goes to the parents. Without you, this would not be possible. It can get a bit challenging having to bring the players to training/games on cold nights/days when you would rather be sitting in a warm home. In some way, you would have to love the game as much as your child to do this.

I am so proud of you all in the way you conducted yourselves yesterday and today. Even Holy Cross acknowledged the standard of behaviour by all clubs was exceptional. This year is the first time they have not had any instances of bad behaviour.

Where do we go from here? Our mini teams will be playing exhibition matches on grand final day (Saturday, 8th September) at Leichhardt Oval. Our Under 10’s will also be playing there in the Grand Final. What a fantastic time to be there and support them all the way to the top.

We are still working on our Presentation Day and will let you know as soon as details are finalised.

Under 6's (Julia La-Fernandez - Manager)

Hip Hip Hooray to all the children who participated in the Benny Elias Shield Day. Our mighty under six team may not have won the finals however, they were still winners because they stayed together and played together throughout the whole day. The physical and emotional support from all our other teams was great. Our player of the grand final game went out to Micah Matoe. He did such an amazing job. He used all his fuse to run, tackle and score for his team with all his might! All the children in our team were on fire but towards the end of the day they were getting tired, with such big efforts from everyone they managed to complete what they came to do...Play and have fun!

We stayed to watch our brother/sister team play (under 7 Orange) and their performance was so great they should've won....Oops THEY WON! Winners are grinners!

The under six team would like to give a big congratulations to the under 7 Orange team - it's such an inspiration for our team to have an awesome role model team to look up to. They were having fun and giving hi 5's from their coach Ben on the field. Team work and team playing was the main focus of the day. Congratulations to all those who supported all our teams. Great work Coaches, Managers, Trainers (and water boys...lol) and especially to all the children from Leichhardt Juniors.
