GIANTS LADIES, 18's IN FINALS

The Giants Ladies team have been the shining light for the Giants on the field in recent seasons, and should continue that form well into the next few weeks as they play in the 2011 WARL Finals Series. Having defeated every team in the competition this season (only losing one game all year), the ladies should be coming into the Finals confident. This year, they have had games where they've lead all game, and games where they've had to come from behind. They've played really good footy, and occasionally they've had to win ugly ... but at the end of the day, they have still won. These are characteristics of a well-balanced, well-coached, tight-knit team. Joondalup finished equal 1st with Fremantle, however for-and-against points fell in favour of the Roosters girls so they have the opening weekend of the Finals off, while 2nd placed Joondalup take on 3rd placed North Beach. Rockingham (4th) play South Perth (5th) in the other game. The winner of Joondalup vs North Beach plays Fremantle next weekend, while the loser plays the winner of the Rockingham vs South Perth game. Joondalup's opponant in the 2009 and 2010 Grand Finals, Kalamunda Bulldogs, this week had 4 competition points deducted as a penalty for playing unregistered players and therefore dropped out of the top 5, thus allowing South Perth to sneak in in their place.

The Joondalup Under 18's team finished their regular season 1 point off the top, thus also finishing in 2nd spot. The lineup has been in a constant state of change every week as players have frequently been called up to play in the Reserve-Grade and First-Grade teams. This experience is sure to help them as they play the big games over the coming month. There have also been the odd player who has left to return home to the east coast or NZ, but the core of the team has been playing and training together for the majority of the season. This will also be of benefit to their team. The Giants have the ability to blow any team off the park on their day, but can also grind out a victory (as seen last weekend against 1st-placed Rockingham). The boys have a weekend off this weekend (the Under 18's comp has a top 4 Finals Series due to their being less teams), so the rest will do them good to get over any minor, niggling injuries - and should be ready to go next weekend.

THIS WEEKEND:
12:40pm at Charles Riley Reserve, North Beach - Joondalup ladies vs North Beach=
Under 18's - BYE

Good luck to the girls!
