SATURDAY 20th AUGUST 2011 - SENIORS FINALS WEEK 2
George Burnett Park, Karrawarra
10:40am - Ladies: Fremantle vs Joondalup
11:45am - Under18's: Rockingham vs Joondalup
Joondalup's ladies team just scraped home against a desperate North Beach side last weekend, with an Amber Spence penalty goal after the fulltime siren winning the game for the Giants 6-4. The Giants, through #9 Casey Aubin, scored the opening try of the game in the first half and took a 4-nil lead into the half-time break. The game was played back and forth up and down the field when North Beach scored an unconverted try mid-way through the second half to level the game. Numerous opportunities were presented for the Giants to get ahead late in the game, however all were unsuccessful -including a penalty goal attempt that hit the left upright and bounced back into the field of play. Just before the final siren, the Giants were awarded a penalty some 25m from the posts. The siren went, the goal was kicked, the Giants won. Just.
No doubt coach Jeff Costello will be working on some key areas of attack this week at training.
This weekend at South Perth see's the ladies team take on minor premiers Fremantle for a spot in the Grand Final in two weeks' time. The ladies should have the upper hand in this game, given the Giants came away with a victory last time these two teams met. The losing team this weekend will play the winner of the Rockingham vs North Beach game for the last spot in the big one.
The Under 18's should be fresh after their week off last weekend, and take on Rockingham, with whom they defeated only two weeks ago at Admiral. Both times this season when these two teams have clashed, Joondalup have come out on top 30-24 in both games. Will this be the case this weekend?!
Best of luck to both teams.

The Giants Juniors have all done really well this season, with a lot of great football being played by all the teams and players. Congratulations to the five teams who have made the Finals. There are six age groups competing in the WARL Juniors Finals in 2011, so for the Giants to be represented in four of them is a great achievement, with special mention to the Girls LeagueTag teams. The Giants are in a very unique position of having both Joondalup and Brighton teams in the Finals in the same grade, which means there is a very big possibility of an all-Giants Girls Leaguetag Grand Final in two weeks' time!
Best of luck to all the Junior Giants this weekend! Go the Giants!
