GIANTS TOO STRONG FOR TITANS

The Joondalup Giants have made an impressive start to the 2010 Tooheys Cup season with a big 82-22 win over Goldfield Titans.

The Giants started the game slowly with a lack of intensity and numerous unforced errors which saw Goldfields race away to an early 10 nil lead.

After some great runs from the Giants front row pairing Gus Tawera and Nathan Searle, Joondalup started to gain the upper hand. This laid the platform for some clever ball movement from halves Jimmy Hutton and Jeremy Browne to really expose the Goldfields defence out wide which saw the Giants run in eight tries in the first half.

Try scorers for the Giants were spread across 10 players with Macey Howarth kicking 10 goals. Best players for Joondalup were Roy Katene on the wing who crossed for 3 tries while Frank Mathewman continues to impress in the centres.

Joondalup Reserve grade lost to an impressive South West Warriors side in a very close game, 16-14. Womens OzTag beat South West Warriors 94-0.

This Saturday the Giants host the Fremantle Roosters at Admiral Reserve in what should be a tremendous day of League. Kick off times – Womens Oztag 12:30pm, Reserve Grade 1:45pm & 1st Grade 3:15pm.
