A "tough day at the office” for the Lions last weekend.

We were the only club to qualify all five senior teams for the finals, with 3 teams playing in the elimination minor semi final.

Unfortunately all teams Firsts, Reserves and WLT were beaten and eliminated.

U18’s lost but play in the Preliminary Finals this Friday night at HOME starting 7pm against Joondalup.

Val Murphy Trophy/3rds had an inspiring win over minor premiers Rockingham to go straight to the GF.

Injuries and work commitments have not been kind to the Lions at the business end of the season.

We have 90+ senior registered players for 2017 and need 54 players to field full teams in the finals -  we only had 47 available players including 3 under 18’s backing up from Friday night.

Reserves and Thirds played short and the first grade bench included 2 players who haven't played for many weeks.

But that is football and all players and coaching staff are to be congratulated on their efforts.

Good luck to the 18’s this Friday and lets all get to the GF to support our teams.

Post game, first grade coach Justin Nixon confirmed he will not be seeking his reappointment option for 2018.

We thank “Barney” for his efforts and success over the last 4 years.

Barney was selected in 2014 after a very successful stint as WARL state coach.

Although having no prior club coaching experience the committee were confident in his ability to develop our player group.

He won the premiership in his first year 2014 followed by (losing) grand finals in 2015 and 2016.

2017 was a tough year for player churn and we used 38 players in first grade over the 17 competition games!

Barney has coached the Lions for 56 wins from 76 games over those 4 years, an excellent strike rate of 74%

Again thanks to Barney for maintaining and extending the Lions reputation as a leading club in WA rugby league

He has left a strong group of young players with the future potential to develop into dominant senior and state level players.

Speaking of our young players – Junior GF this Sunday at Dorrien Gardens and the Lions are playing in 4 of the 6 games (see attached)

Congratulations and good luck to all teams -  hopefully see you there
