The South Perth Lions roared their way to another premiership in a classic match holding out a very determined Fremantle Roosters side 28-26 on Saturday.

The Roosters scored the opening try of the game and took an early 6-0 lead in a high quality match.

About 20 minutes in the referee sin-binned four players, two from each side for throwing punches as tempers flared. Barney Nixon then injected Dean Shepherd into the game and his men capitalised on the extra room in this time scoring two tries through Brandon Timlin & TK Kahari.

Leading 10-6 at half-time the Roosters struck back early capitalising on some South Perth errors converting the first try of the half. They then extended their lead to 14-10 opting to take a penalty goal after a glut of posession.

The Lions then took it up another gear scoring 3 tries in the next 10 minutes. Brandon & TK scored their second and Ron Hudson medalist Dean Shepherd also crossed over to provide what seemed to be a convincing 28-14 lead with less than fourteen minutes remaining.

Korny's Roosters returned serve with two quick tries of their own to get within 2 points and four nail-biting minutes still remaing in the clock.

The whole team held their nerve and played good field position to hold in an epic entertaining grand final.

Unfortunateley our Reserve grade and U/18's sides both went down in golden point thrillers. Both grades scored the last try of their match's to level the scores but missed the conversions when they needed them most.

Under 18's went down 23-22 to the Rockingham Sharks.

Reserve Grade lost to North Beach 22-18

Well done on a great year by the whole club who were also named club champions.
