Sandringham Football Club appoint Simon McPhee as senior coach

Sandingham Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Simon McPhee as Senior Coach for the next two years.

This is a major coup for Sandringham Football Club and the Victorian Football League, as McPhee coached the Claremont Football Club to the WAFL Premiership title this season.

This appointment would not have been possible without the support and assistance of the St Kilda Football Club.

In addition to his role as Senior Coach, McPhee will be also be part of the newly unveiled Saints Player Academy.

McPhee, comes with a wealth of Football experience. Simon played reserves football for East Perth and although he was five times listed as an emergency for the league team, ankle and groin injuries stopped him from reaching senior ranks.

The 42-year-old became a mainstay of Wembley's top amateur side and represented the WA amateur team before taking on the local club's colts coaching job 17 years ago. McPhee progressed to coach Wembley's senior team for three years and then had a variety of coaching roles with the Claremont reserves, and the Subiaco and Claremont colts teams before eventually taking over the Claremont senior coaching role as a caretaker in 2009 after Claremont lost the first five games of the season. So impressive was McPhee (The Tigers won 7 of the remaining 15 games) that he was offered the job full time in 2010.

McPhee is experienced in dealing with alignments between a 2nd tier club and an AFL club after successfully working the alignment between Claremont and the West Coast Eagles resulting in Claremont reaching the Grand Final in his first full season in charge (2010) before they took out the Premiership in 2011.

McPhee who is currently living in Western Australia is expected to make the trip over for the Zebs first pre season training session on November 9.

Former West Coast player Jaymie Graham, who has also joined St Kilda's coaching team will also have a match-day role with the Zebras. We hope to have the Reserves coaching position and the other assistant positions filed within the next couple of weeks.

I’m sure all Sandringham Football Club Members, supporters and players will welcome this exciting appointment and we look forward to a bright future under Simon.
