Wrap up of the 2014 season

The 2015 season has been a very rewarding rugby league season full of growth and achievement for the Lane Cove Tigers. Congratulations to all teams, players and coaches for your efforts in a fantastic season of Junior Rugby League.

Our season started on a high note when we appeared on the Small Talk segment for The NRL Footy Show. They liked us so much that we were used for the Small Talk intro each week.

Our Mini Footy teams in our Under-6s, Under-7s and Under-8s teams were a joy to watch this year as all of the kids have so much excitement and enthusiasm for the game. The gala day at North Sydney Oval at the end of the year showed how much you have all progressed through out the season.

Our Under-9s showed plenty of improvement in their move up to the Mod League competition and proved to be one of the most skillful teams. Not only did they end the season with the best attacking record by over 90 points, but they also had the best defensive record. The boys put in plenty of gritty performance through out the finals series and earnt themselves a spot in the grand final, however went down by the narrowest of margins 26 to 24.

Our Under-10s had a lot of first time players this year and their efforts through out the season have built a strong foundation for this team for many years to come. The boys season was capped off with a strong performance in their finals appearance and with some great tries they scored through very determined running.

Our Under-11s have achieved a record breaking season and went through the season undefeated. Their season was built on a strong defensive efforts and managed to conceded just 30 points during the regular season. The boys ran out 48-10 winners on grand final day and their efforts made the back page of the North Shore Times.

A huge thank you to all our volunteers including coaches, trainers and every parent for their efforts in making the Lane Cove Tigers such a fun and family friendly club. Congratulations to our Vice President Con Moutevelis who was rewarded for his tireless contributions to the club at the North Sydney Men of League dinner.

Due to our growth in number of teams and strong on field performance the club ended up finishing second in the North Sydney District Junior Club championship.

At our end of season presentation day we were able to recognise the many achievements of our teams and their players. Our top Mini's try scorer award went to Corey Kingston and our top Mod try scorer went to Archie McGurk. We were also able to recognise the achievements of the boys who reached the 50 game milestone in 2014, being William Stormont, Nicholas Moutevelis, Joshua Kingston, Anthony Moutevelis, Edward Rayner, Julian Sammour, Ethan Moore, Dean Nahmias and Corey Kingston. Well done boys!

Our club could not have achieved so much without the contributions from our generous sponsors, and I'm sure all players and parents will join us in a big thank you to these amazing companies including:

  • The Grounds of Alexandria
  • Birds Commerial - Interior Specialists
  • 3D Warehouse Solutions
  • Oxford Fire Protection
  • 20-20 of Mosman Dry Cleaning

Our charity for 2014 was ChildFund Australia and it was fantastic to be able to promote and support their work this year.

We are already working hard in preparation for the 2015 season and there is plenty to look forward to next year!
