KEDRON seniors went down to Noosa Tigers by 17 points in a physically tough encounter at home yesterday. In a game of high intensity, players from both sides put their bodies on the line as the wrestle between the third and second place holders unfolded. It was a small taste of what finals footy will be about and our boys showed they are up to the task, leading for three quarters. But the Noosa boys never gave up and thoroughly deserved their victory. A couple of game ending injuries early for KEDRON will have selectors" fingers crossed during the week for our preparation against fourth placed Maroochydore.
Best for Kedron was Nugget McGrath and Crafty who were outstanding down back. Nutta Clarke showed again the polish that has been with him during his whole footy career, and big Jakey was non stop around the ground. Tom Grist worked hard all day and his delivery into the forward line was impressive. Overall, the game was a great hit out for both teams as finals footy approaches in a couple of weeks.
Our Ressies showed again they have the game plan to go a long way if they stick to it. Their first quarter was very good, however as second placed Noosa applied the stranglehold, our boys lost some of their application and composure. They will get a small, but valuable lesson from this game, and a glimpse of what the next few weeks holds for them. On field voices must lift and our leaders must stand up to show the way for the younger players in this group. The game plan is there, and victory is within our grasp if we reach within ourselves and be willing to hurt mentally and physically for the next six weeks. Siza went very well, and continues to improve in his return from knee injury. Ossie was strong throughout, and Cookie again was hard and relentless all day.
Final scores 10-12-72 to 3-2-20
Congrats to our thirds who went down by three goals to Uni Lions at home on Friday night. It was a top game to watch and out boys deserve great credit for sticking at the task all night against a well drilled Uni outfit. Our side is showing the benefits of having the nucleus of a competitive team, and only have suffered at times due to players being unavailable or promoted to higher selection. Unfortunately this is the nemesis of third grade footy, but our boys never complain and go just as hard as any players in our club. Well done gentlemen!
