Kedron celebrated big wins in senior and reserve grade with a great night at one of our sponsors, the Albion Hotel. The Red and Blue Gala night, (the brain child of senior coach Ducey) proved a wonderful way of reinforcing team spirit as we head toward the business end of our season.
The afternoon saw our seniors side record a strong victory against local rivals, Aspley. With places in the side becoming very competitive, the boys put down the accelerator after a slow start. Admittedly, the gusty conditions affected scoring shots early, but a great 10 goal display by GFunk, led the way for a dominant showing by our forward line. Matty Smith showed again he's getting better with each run after an injury interrupted season. His 6 goal haul will do wonders for his confidence, but it's the often unrewarded one percenters that he does which are equally as impressive as his goal kicking. Fez continued with his ominous form and got a glut of possessions around the ground and up forward. Overall the midfield stood up in and around the contests and was ably led by Chiv, Jakey and Jemma.
On a day where forwards shone, our backline was stable and cool under pressure and managed to repel most Aspley attacks. Special mention to Guysey who was given a tough job for the day but as usual went about his work unselfishly for the team.
Final scores Kedron 31-15-201.def Aspley 10 -6-66
The Ressies boys displayed another effective performance of structured team football. Onlookers commented that the penny seems to have dropped, that team discipline and sticking to a proven game plan is the best course for success. Mill was again hard and strong at Centre Half Back, but it was the dominance of our midfield which lay the platform for the 11-13-79 to 1-6-12 scoreline. Great to have Siza back after a lengthy break due to injury. His high possession rate and around the ground footy smarts is a vital component to this team's success. Snale and Ossie went well in a side strengthened by the return of a couple of regular Senior players. Cookie and Cheesey were tireless throughout the game and Robbo and Pearcey were very dangerous in the forward fifty.
The thirds went down narrowly 6-11-47 to 5-8-38 to Kenmore on Friday night. It was a great performance particularly by Powelly (Brent), Hamish and Liam Detering in a side which has had its share of ups and downs this year. Powelly plays footy as hard as anyone and his performance will put pressure on selectors to consider him for a recall to higher grade footy. Great also to see one of Kedron popular recruits Billy Younis have a kick after a season interrupted by work commitments. Billy is a good footballer and showed this with a strong performance around the ground.
Next week the Seniors and Ressies have a bye so time for the boys to get over some niggles and ready themselves for the last three games which will determine finals spots in late August.
