The Tweed Coast Tigers have now extended their winning streak to 4 games on the trot after a tough physical encounter against a spirited Nimbin Demons at Pottsville on Saturday.
It's amazing what a little bit of success can do for a Footy Club and the Tigers playing roster has swelled to well over 30 players on the back of some great wins and fantastic work by the Committee and Club President's recruitment drive. Whilst having a big roster is a great thing for the club it has meant that several players a game have to miss out. On Saturday 5 new Tigers players took to the field in the Nimbin colours to help boost the Demons numbers. Les, Dean, Kane, Forest and Herc all did themselves and the Club proud putting on a great effort and sending out a message to the Tigers run on Team that their places are no certainty.
If their was one word to describe Nimbin it's PASSSION. Whilst down in numbers and wanting in fitness at times the Demons ferosity at the ball cannot be questioned and they caught the Tigers napping in the first qtr to only trail by 1 goal at the first break Tigers 5, 3 to Nimbin 4, 3.
Tigers Coach Paul Kelly was not impressed by the Tigers lethargic start and let them know about it at qrt time, the boys lifted and kicked 5 goals to 1 in the second term.
On what was a heavy track and with lots of big contacts the Tigers bench started to resemble a casuality ward by half time. A couple of shoulders an ankle and some rib injuries saw the bench depleted and the tigers finshed the game with only 15 out of 16 run on players for the last 10 minutes of the last qtr.
Whilst the Tigers lifted where required and the result was never really in doubt it was a great effort by Nimbin across the park to keep the final score to Tigers 21, 13, (139) to the Demons 9, 11, (65).
For the Tigers good performances from forwards Jules and Gav who kicked 4 goals a piece, half foward Adam with 3 and Capt Josh with a tonne of running and 3 goals (and about 15 behinds).
Special mention for Strope (1) and Popey (2) who both popped their goal cherries and are still debating who's kick was longest. Single goals to Jimbob, Jacob, Johno and Al.
Whilst not the Tigers best performance it was a good hit out, the injury list is growing with Benny out for a few weeks with a shoulder and few of the lads of to the Potty Physio today.
Thanks to all the Coaching Staff, Commitee and of course the large local Potty crowd who turn up to support the Tigers.
Next Game is Saturday 11th June at Lismore Vs the Swans. It should be a cracker!.
