Rd 7 saw the Ballina Bombers travel to Pottsville to take on a Tigers team on a roll after 2 good wins and the Tigers juggernaught didn't disappoint the large home crowd to cause their second major upset for the season.
After upsetting Lismore last week the Tigers prepared well for this game and have developed a new found confidence that has the highly fancied clubs of the Sumemrland League looking over their shoulder. A big win against Ballina on Saturday has only strengthed the Tigers push for a finals berth in their innaugural season.
A fantastic day for footy saw the Tigers start the game with the wind in the first qtr and after Ballina kicked the first goal it was all Tigers with a rampaging full forward Jules kicking 5 for the term and Ballina failing to trouble the scorers until after qtr time. At qtr time it was 6,7 (43) Tigers to 1, 0 (6) Ballina. Only some inacurrate kicking stopped the Tigers from finishing the match right there.
In what was a extremly physical match with a bit of claret spilt, the next two qtrs saw the Ballina Bombers lift however the Tigers had answers rigth across the park and match the Bombers goal for goal. The Pottsville home ground is continuing to develop its reputation as the 'House of Pain' for visiting teams.
It was the final qtr that saw the Tigers continue thier dominance with a confident display to runaway from the Bombers kicking 5 goals to 1 into the wind.
Tigers Coach Paul Kelly was ecstatic with the Tigers effort, and with such a newly formed and inexperienced team the Tigers are proving themselves a real handfull hunting in packs and extremly hard at the ball.
In what was a great game to watch for the local supporters every single Tigers player contributed to the win. Oustanding performances from the centres laid the platform, lead by Johnno (more touches than room on the stats sheet) and 2 goals, Jai, and the ruckman Jacob and Strope who dominated the bounce all day. The backline was determined and solid lead by Trent the T-Bone and aptly supported by Jimbob and Rambo.
But it was the forwards who continued to proove unstoppable with Jules kicking his second bag of 10 goals in a truly outstanding performance. Flying high above the pack to take spectaclular marks or scrapping of the ground to snap goals Jules was the man. Supported by Gav, PK and half forward Nankers all with 1 goal the Tigers had plenty of targets up front.
All in all a massive turn around for the Tigers who were thrashed by 80 pts by Ballina only 5 weeks ago.
Tigers - 16,16 (112)
defeated Ballina - 9,5 (59)
The Tigers are now ready to take on defending Premiers the Byron Magpies this weekend at Bangalow.
