The Tweed Coast Tigers finally got a run on Saturday after what seems like weeks without a game.
Nimbin made a big effort to bring a team to Tigerland on Saturday after their home ground was closed due to being too wet. Unfortunately they fell just 3 players short of what registers as an official match and with their 12 players + a couple of Tigers the game was declared a scratch match of 15 min quarters.
The Tigers used this opportunity for a good hit out in preparation for the big upcoming clash with Lismore next weekend. The Nimbin players always play hard and to their credit kicked the first goal of the game as once again the Tigers were slow out of the blocks. However from then on it was all Tigers with Nimbin only managing 1 point after half time. Playing well up front for the Tigers was young Jessi who bagged 5 goals for his troubles with one mammoth kick from the centre square sailing though the big sticks. Ash, Benny, and Johnno all got 3 each.
A special mention for the Tigers players who volunteered to play for the Demons for the whole game including Big John who had the massive job of rucking against the human beanstalk Strope and to Big John’s credit kept the much younger man on his toes, Little John tried hard all day for the D’s but probably their most effective Tiger ring in was Pepe, who single handedly cost the Tigers a bag of goals by his offbeat sledging of the player shooting at goal. Usually accurate players were splicing them of the side of the boot left and right of the big sticks as Pepe stepped up his noise. Classic Pepe! Other Tigers to cross over for a quarter included Jacob, Timmy and Sammy.
A big thanks to Nimbin who made the effort to come down to Tigerland for a kick. Hopefully they can hang in there and recruit a few players to keep their club going.
Thank you to the Tigers committee and volunteers for their efforts and the Tigers supporters.
Next week will see the Tigers first real test on the road when they take on the Lismore Swans at Lismore.
