Bens story
Former Chittering Player Ben Gillard was a member of the victorious 2014 Swan Districts Colts Premiership team. Congratulations!
Ben Gillard is a success story that has grown from the sleepy little town of Muchea. Ben started his Junior Football with the Chittering Junior Football Club back in under 9’s (2005) and from my observations didn’t look like a potential Colts player. Very shy and assuming , Ben was like most under 9,s , waited for the ball, just happy for a kick and after that a big smile.
It wasn’t until several years passed that Ben started to show signs of his talent as a AFL footballer. Once Ben hit youth football, he hit his straps, the passion and the drive was their. During Bens youth playing days at CJFC, I noticed on many occasions , Ben would run laps at our oval, before and during the season on his own. It was during that period I thought the lad has the drive to succeed. Bens great traits along with ability, gave him the opportunity to play at the next level.
On several occasions during 2014, Ben made his way down to the Muchea oval to assist with training of the younger age groups. Ben is clearly a lad who remembers where he came from.
It is paramount that any player has parental support and with that proper guidance for his or her direction. Ben is fortunate to have just that. Jody and Marty have a fine young man in our community who is well respected. Ben is very deserving of his success and we wish him well on his journey.
