Personal Accident injury claims
The attached flyers provide a valuable summary in respect to Personal Accident claims and the Medicare Gap to assist players, officials etc injured through participating in Australian Football under the National Programme managed for us by JLT Sport.
In summary, 3 key elements exist:
1) Medicare Gap - The Health Insurance Act prevents payment of the Medicare Gap (the difference between the actual cost and Medicare refund) for items that are in part covered by Medicare (e.g. Doctors Fee, Surgeon Fees, Anaesthetist Fees, x-rays, Public Hospital costs etc).
2) Private Health Insurance / Ambulance cover - Claimants should claim under either of these separate covers (if applicable) initially.
3) More information / Claim Form - Important insurance and claim information together with a claim form can be downloaded via the dedicated website http://www.jltsport..com.au/AFL/claim.aspx
It is best to inform parents or players as early as possible, however at least inform the player (or their parent) as soon as someone is injured
about the above to avoid any assumptions that everything (including the Medicare Gap) is covered.
N.B: The initial base level coverage for many clubs in Australia is at the "Bronze" level which has 50% reimbursement coverage for items not covered by Medicare (up to a maximum of $2,000 with a $100 excess). Coverage also includes permanent disablement and death coverage amongst other areas.
Optional upgrade coverage is available via http://www.jltsport.com.au/AFL/upgrade.aspx for:
- loss of income coverage;
- to increase the maximum claim coverage;
- to reduce the excess; & / or
- increase the Quadriplegia / Paraplegia benefits.
