Belconnen Magpies Academy

This Thursday night at 5pm at the Kippax ovals the Belconnen Magpies will kick start for the very first time the BMFC Academy. The Belconnen Magpies Academy is an innovative program that will provide young junior footballers at the Junior Magpies and Belconnen Cats a unique opportunity to experience the best coaching and development from the Belconnen Magpies Senior Club.

The academy is aimed at aspiring young players between the age of 13 and 18 years old. The academy will include around 30 participants which will be made up of 8-10 players from each of the U14’s, U16’s and the U18’s.

The Belconnen Magpies Academy is based on the same six core elements of the AIS/AFL Academy curriculum.

 These elements are;

1. Physical preparation

2. Skill Development

3. Nutrient & Recovery

4. Personal Development

5. Athlete & Career development

6. Belconnen Magpies Policies

This is achieved through the delivery of a curriculum that not only teaches participants the skills of the Australian Football, but also focuses on broader issues that will enhance each participants personal development. This will include educating young people about the benefits of health and fitness, as well as providing the best training methods and nutritional advice to support optimal performances. The program will encourage the players to developing valuable leadership and team work skills which will help them develop not only their football but their career paths as well.

The BMFC senior club recognises that not all talented juniors are selected into representative teams and development programs, that’s why the Belconnen Magpies Academy is aimed at ensuring these players receive the required coaching and development needed to assist them to realise their Australian Rules Football potential.

The Academy is conducted and driven by GWS and specialised coach John Harper. John will be assisted by a team of professionals from different fields to ensure each player receives the best development possible.

Stay tuned for more updates throughout each week about how the Belconnen Academy is progressing.
