When quizzed about the appointment mid week, Blume humbly stated that he was "shocked" to receive the appointment, between the GWS South Giants and Brisbane Lions, to be played at Tom Wills Oval, Olympic Park, Sydney, on June 10. Stephen said he was "fired up to represent the NCCUA with pride" on the day.
The AFLW Winter Series serves as an opportunity for NSW and ACT talent to train at an elite level and play alongside and against AFL Women’s players.
With the GIANTS and the Lions both foundation AFLW clubs, the series also serves as a pathway for the Suns’ to grow ahead of their entry in to the national competition in 2020.
The Northern GIANTS will be comprised players from AFL Sydney, AFL Central West Women’s, Black Diamond League, AFL North West NSW, AFL North Coast, while the Southern GIANTS will be based in the ACT with the squad comprised of players from women’s competitions in AFL Canberra, AFL Riverina and AFL Broken Hill.
It would be a safe bet that as well as AFL W talent scouts observing the matches, that Stephen will be watched by AFL Umpiring talent scouts, who frequent these matches in search of young talented umpires.
We wish Stephen all the very best for this appointment and we know he will do the NCCUA and himself, very proud.
