Mustang Murmurs Return!

By Geoff Newstead

Here’s the first installment of Mustang Murmurs for 2016. If you have anything interesting or funny

or just downright stupid that you’d like to share then let me know (I’m the good looking dude behind

the bar).

A win for Coxy

As you probably know, we lost some long serving and valued members during the off-season and the

players wore black armbands during the Round 1 Donny East game as a show of respect, so it was

great to see the late Noel Cox’s wife, Norma, and children Jody, Sharon & Shane and son-in- law Mick

Kist at the game. I reckon Coxy would have been pretty chuffed with the great win altho he probably

wouldn’t have said much (‘cause he never did).

Say What ?? (1)

Even coach Paris Harvie must have been pretty excited with the way the boys were playing against Donny

East. Evidently he got a bit confused with one of his adages at ¾ time when he said we’d “knocked

the sails out of their wind”

Say What ?? (2)

Still at Donny East and the crowd on the hill was also getting a bit excited with the early season form

of our boys. Everyone was cheering them on when the booming voice of George Georgiou yelled “go

Kilometers”. Everyone stopped barracking and gave George a puzzling look. His explanation “I’ve

gone metric – I’m cheering Miles” Sometime you’re quite funny George, and then there’s time like

Old Stalwarts

I know we have a lot of great helpers at our great club but there’s a couple that just keep turning up

year after year. Freddy Jordan has hardly missed a training session since mid-November and, as all

the players and coaching staff know, he does a great job looking after the balls, water, training bibs

and many other things, but you may not know that before each home game he goes down to the

Heights and gurneys the asphalt in front of the rooms then cleans all the front windows inside and

out. Fred also vacuums and cleans up the change rooms after each home game. Another old fella

who deserves a mention is Eddie Sudomirski. Eddie has suffered a few health problems in recent

years and has found it difficult to continue his timekeeping duties. However, with his replacement,

Ian Toleman, also suffering health issues at the moment, Eddie has stepped back into the role until

Tolly recovers. Thanks to both of you for your years of dedication to the club and you can be assured

it is greatly appreciated.

Best BAR None

While on the subject of helpers, we once again have the outside bar roster up and running this year.

I think this must now be pretty unique in the league to have around 30 blokes volunteering their

time to help out the club. I lost a few from last year but actually had even more to replace them with

the new crop of dads coming through. The old adage of “Many hands make light work” is definitely

appropriate in this instance.

That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
