Footy is definitely back as the IFWFC woke up feeling sore, bruised and battered after their round 1 clash against reigning premiers Greenacres.
Putting on a top display against the GWFC, the Bulldogs midfield was relentless, applying some great pressure which caused a number of stoppages in the square. Lilla and Jess’ running game was well and truly on display as they used the boundary line well and Kim did a great job of hustling in the packs. Vicki hit her targets perfectly in the ruck allowing the midfield to clear the ball and push it forward on a number of occasions.
The newly formed forward line functioned well together when the ball came into their 50 however were unfortunately unable to convert… until the final few minutes of the game where new recruit Chook smacked it on her left boot to give the Bulldogs their first and only major score for the day! Clancey and Browney added some much needed experience in the forward lines for the Bulldogs, Clancey providing the midfield with a constant target up forward and Browney applying some top defensive pressure and worked hard for her teammates shepherding and bumping opponents off the ball.
The back line were a tight unit, making the Dragons work hard for their goals which mainly came from crumbing and running plays until the fourth quarter where they had a few set shots. New player, Molly “The Brick” Nichols-Pavy, caused the Greenacres forward line much pain, spoiling a number of marks while taking some solid contested grabs herself. Carol courageously put her body on the line when she came in from the side to smother a shot at goal and Solly often fended off a number of players to clear the ball out of the danger zone.
While the IFWFC fought hard and showed much improvement in linking up of handballs and hitting targets, Greenacres showed why they were last year’s Premiers with their slick skills and hard running leading them to an 87-point win. The efforts of the Ingle Farm players didn’t go unnoticed with Greenacres mentioning that the scoreboard didn’t show how hard and tough we played.
IFWFC congratulate Kayla Gepp, Rianna Lee and Molly Nichols-Pavey on their first game in the SAWFL (they couldn’t have picked a tougher first game!) and welcome the addition of Fiona Clancey, Alana Browne and Michelle O’Brien from West Adelaide.
Congratulations to the following players who were named best players back at the club rooms: Kim Brooks, Lilla Berry, Bec Campbell, Alana Browne, Vicki Burford, Molly Nichols-Pavy and Jess Sedunary.
Final Score:
Greenacres 14.10 (94) d. Ingle Farm 1.1 (7)
Goal Kickers: M. O’Brien
