Our David makes the step

Our David Masters has been selected for the newly developed and launched Auckland United FC team. Playing the ASB Youth League from January 2014, David has been trialling for the last few months and has made the team.

We are delighted for him and his family as he takes the step into a higher grade of football. Not too long ago David stepped into senior football and since then has grown in statue.

David made the transition from the Ricki Herbert Football Academy Youth team into Senior football. The partnership of the Ricki Herbert FA and Albany United FC meant that David was welcomed into the squad. Although as second keeper to his mentor and coach, Michael McMurtrie, who is the Ricki Herbert FA Auckland Goalkeeper Coach, David progressed and learnt more about himself, improved on his skills and reading the game, bettered his understanding of the game and improved on his weaknesses. Being on the team sheet each week was one thing but David got his call up during the season and not only this but got two starts during the 2013 campaign. David joined the academy in December 2011 where he successfully trialled and for a goalkeeper spot for the academy Victoria, Australian tour and was announced with the academy player of the tour award.

At soon to be 17, David was also selected as the number1 goalkeeper for the academy Europe tour towards the end of 2013 where they played against both Spanish and English competition. David’s experience, growth and development is a great testament to how an operation of development and looking after people who put in the hard work and ensuring you provide for those people, can work. It has been an absolute pleasure to see him grow and be rewarded for his efforts. Taking the opportunities he has with trust has seen him leap bounds as a footballer and a person. We are pleased that David has been selected for the Auckland United FC team and wish him well for the season which kicks off in a weeks’ time on January 12th 2014.

Congratulations and best wishes David, do yourself and us proud.
